I was wandering if people wanted to share some past stories of their bullies that have passed over the bridge.
some of these dogs must have had great stories.
everytime I see Carol post and always Winston..is what made me think to start a thread about bullies from our past..
it is really nice to remember these bulldogs
I have no bully that has passed the bridge but someday I will for sure..
Harley 4/30/00 - 3/21/06
Harley was our first bulldog. We found him in a pet store and immediately fell in love. We really had no intentions on getting a dog, but they had just opened the store and we wanted to check it out. We asked to play with Harley and all he did was lay across my shoes and bite my shoe laces. We put him back as my husband and I were planning our wedding and could not jusitfy spending that much on a puppy. We walked back by his glass and he looked at us and turned his back to us and would not turn around. I was crushed. We went home that night and all I could think about was him. My husband also kept talking about him. The next morning we both got up to get ready for work. We looked at each other and both called into our jobs and went and bought Harley. He was the best dog either of us had ever owned. He did have his fair share of health problems which we later learned not to buy again from a pet store, but he was so full of love. Harley ended up having Cushing's disease. It was a constant battle to keep him under control with it. We ended up having to put him to sleep a little before his 6th birthday. I was devatsated. He is still talked about today by several members in our family. He really touch a lot of hearts. He will always be my special boy and I still miss him dearly.
jez looks so happy to be in the cart:)

Oliver Rufus 06/06/05-04/14/07
He was my first dog ever. He changed my whole life. I miss him everyday & thank him for bringing bullies & my subsequent bully friends into my life after he passed. He was only 22 months old & my baby. He is the reason I'm here on these boards...I was searching on cancer in bulldogs.
Three years is coming up & it's hard to believe he's been gone that long. I cry often about him still. He's got a very nice page on my site if you're at all interested in reading about my Little Dude!

We lost our first boy Truman at 22 months...
to valley fever. Never was sick from it and just suddenly passed away. Our rescue girl Oreo was 10 1/2 when she went to the bridge with a tumor in her chest. Oscar had lymphoma and left us at 6 years of age. Hopefully Chester and Ollie will be around for a long time to come.

Malcolm 06/03/2000-04/26/2008
Malcolm was our very first bulldog, he taught us the love for the breed and was most special to us. He had just started acting like a puppy again when we came home and found him lying on his side on the floor breathing shallow. Called vet, put him in car and rushed out to meet her. Unfortunately even with CPR he passed away in the car on the way to the vet, we are not sure what happened but believe it was his heart. I created a video montage for Malcolm, here is the link if you are interested.

My handsome Malcolm, gone but not forgotten!
He captured our hearts and was a very very special angel
He had a perfect life with you in a perfect place. You two belonged together. I am thrilled to have one of his sons also. Chance reminds me of his father in very very many ways.
me too..
terrible tragedy. So sorry.
I don't rescue animals because I want to feel better about myself, or morally superior to anyone. The best part of my life with animals is the humility they teach and the humanity the foster.
Jon Katz "Soul of a Dog"
I remember when that happened
I opened the post and read it at work. Cried all the way home. So devastating. I remember a picture you posted that I believe was of Higgins sitting on his hind legs begging for food.
Those are Texas bluebonnets (here is a funny pic)
Every spring the fields are full of bluebonnets and indian paintbrushes. Great for pictures but they are STICKY!! Jez absolutely hated posing in those things and you could tell.
I was trying to pose her and Tinker, you can tell she is not happy
She has had enough and bolting, Tinker is just checking to see if she is going to get in trouble for following her
wow..
learn soo much from your responses
thanks for that..
that is very tragic with such a small puppy..
are they classic signs of bloat?? for a person to recongize at home??
He's with us...
Everytime we enter the ring. His brothers and sisters are doing him proud in the ring, in his memory.
Perserverance isn't a long race.
It's a series of short races,
ran one after the other.
-In memory of Casper
Gastric Torsion, Bloat
a twisting of the stomach, causing cirulatory stranglation and the gases to expand, further exasperating the situation. The shock causes the stomach lining to release and toxins flood the bloodstream. It is usually due to drinking or eating a large meal, and then rough play or exercise. We were meticulous about feeding them in their crates and letting it digest for 30 minutes before they were allowed out to drink or play. He hadn't eaten since noon, so there were several hallmarks for bloat that just weren't there. Sometimes even when it appears that your doing all the right stuff, fate just cracks you between the eyes. We miss him, and he will always be in our hearts. For those of you who went to this past years Nationals, you may have noticed our tribute to him on our grooming table. We gave him the honorary "title" of "Honorary Champion Bryson's White Knight of Westbury".

I remember that incident,----
and how hard it was on you and Kim. I'm glad to see that you have forged ahead with your breeding program...this breed certainly can be heartbreaking, but also can bring so much love and happiness.
Oh Sue...
What a tragic loss! My heart breaks reading this....
She was such
a sweet spirit, Denise.
I remember when you lost her...such a sad day here.
You can "read"
the love that you have for your girl in your words.
She was way to young to leave you...
She's the reason I bought the calendar I did
One of her pics in the purple flower field. She has this "stoopid flowers" look on her face that cracks me up every time I look at it. I even flip ahead to look at the pic when I need a lift! Beautiful girl...
Such a dignified boy!
He was so handsome....
He was
one gorgeous pup. So sad....
Oh how sad!!---
Wow Sue...that is just so tragic! What an awful way to lose your boys.
I couldn't come to
BDW while Chief's flame was burning.... I lost it every time I thought about him.
He was just a baby....
I remember....
I was so heartbroken for you, Barb. So sad...
Sweet, sweet Jez!!
She sure was happy on that golf cart Denise. I never realized you had such a difficult time with her for the first 3 years of her life...she looks so happy and healthy in all those pictures; I'm sure it's because of all the care and love you gave her.
He was a beautiful boy
I know how much you miss him.
Such a sad story....
Thank you for sharing this very sad story. Last summer we had several days of 106 degrees outside here in Texas. Spanky is 8 years old and just going outside for a quick potty during those hot days was very stressful. I'm not sure what I would do with him if we were to lose our power.... but after reading your story, I'm definitely going start working on a plan!
what a beautiful bulldog..
wow..really young
what causes bloat?
do not know that much about it to be honest
georgous bulldog..that is soo sad
and far to young..to loose a bulldog
thanks for sharing
OH my goodness..2 of them at one time...wow
that is really tragic..
I can't even imagine what that is like to loose
2 of them at the same time..
again thanks for sharing your story
and sorry about your loss too..
what a georgous bulldog...
what a moving story as well
thanks for sharing
very very pretty bulldog
Bloat is so awful
It has to be caught almost immediately to make a difference. Casper was a beautiful baby.
I can't imagine losing 2 at once
I know how devastated you must have been.
What a beautiful boy....
so sweet.
Jez
Such a terrible loss. I will always remember her from those golf cart pictures. She always looked so happy and always smiling.
