I was wandering if people wanted to share some past stories of their bullies that have passed over the bridge.
some of these dogs must have had great stories.
everytime I see Carol post and always Winston..is what made me think to start a thread about bullies from our past..
it is really nice to remember these bulldogs
I have no bully that has passed the bridge but someday I will for sure..
She is beautiful!
I can feel your love and devotion.
Beautiful girl
It's so hard when lose one of these special babies.
He was stung under his tongue
We have no idea what could have stung or bit him. Chief spent nearly a week at the Vet's but for some reason he just couldn't get well.
Casper, 4/1/09 - 7/19/09
Our first litter from our first Champion, brought us 6 beautiful puppies. 4 boys, 2 girls. Kim had taken one of the boys to the vet (45 minutes away) for diarreha and left at 3pm. I got home at 330 from work to find Casper lethargic and swollen. I called the vet and told him that I had a bloat, and was bringing him in. I did over 90 most of the way there, and some of it on the shoulder. Kim was there, in shock that we now had one fighting to live. We worked on him for an hour and a half, but the gastric torsion had caused the lining to necrate and release toxins into the blood. The first thing the vet did, was to give him a shot of lidocaine, so at least he was out of pain immediately. Kim took it hard, thinking that she should have seen something was wrong with him, and took him with her. The vet reassured us that there was a very slim chance that it would have made a difference. The vet staff did a great job, but somethings aren't meant to be.
Perserverance isn't a long race.
It's a series of short races,
ran one after the other.

Dudley & Higgins
It's been almost 9 years since I lost my boys to heat exhaustion. Talk about devastated! The a/c broke down on a very humid 95 degree day. They were in the house and there were 2 full water bowls. It just got to hot.
Dudley was my very first bulldog. He was such a good boy. I showed him in obedience. He had his CGC and CD.
Higgins was from a litter I helped a friend raise and he was my first champion.
I still miss them sooo much!
Sue
Jezabull, my shadow and golfcart riding buddy
Jez was the product of backyard breeding. She had a tiny treachea and spent most of the first 3 years of her life in the ER due to pneumonia. It was a 24/7 battle for the first 3 years trying to keep her healthy. After much trial and error, 3 surgeries and a ton of money I managed to find a happy medium to keep her healthy. She wasn't allowed to run with the other dogs and I could never let her get too excited, but she was content riding on her golfcart. When she was having trouble breathing we would go for a ride in the damp evening air and that would help. I lost her suddenly a week after Hurricane Ike hit the gulf coast. I think she might have had a mild stroke, she was having trouble walking, kept falling down. We finally found an ER that had power and rushed her to the clinic. They gave her some meds and told me she needed a CT scan. We came home that night prepared to find a clinic in the morning with power. She crawled into her bed and went to sleep. She died in her sleep that next morning. I still miss her terribly while riding on the golf cart.

it is hard loosing any dog, any age ....
they all tug at your heart
I have lost dogs in the past but not a bulldog
bulldogs have a special bond with their owners so I can just imagine
how every feels loosing one
Beautiful!
Winston is a beauty, wow! What a heart touching story of him as well.
Maria
Wow, who would have thought a sting could do that.
So sorry that you had to experience such a shocking way to lose Chief. What a beauty of a bulldog.
Maria
IMHA
Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia is defined as accelerated red blood cell destruction due to the presence of antibodies attached to red blood cell membranes. Often described as one of the most common immunohematologic disorders in dogs, IHMA occurs when the immune system recognizes red blood cells as foreign due to antigens attached to their membranes.
The good red blood cells are attacked thinking they are forign. My research gave evidence that vaccinations can sometimes trigger this. Funny, because Dottie had her shots 7 days prior to becoming ill. Today, I wish I had never taken her in for her shots, but I didn't know she had this.
Yes, it is so sad to lose our precious bulldogs at any age.
Maria
I feel the same....
I was also fortunate enough to meet Jacinda and Chief...what a sweet boy:) Also lucky enough to meet Trace when Jacinda traveled back to Georgia to bring him home...what a good mom.
Janet & Sluga
That was a tough month on BDW.---
What a tragic way to have lost that beautiful boy of yours Jacinda.
Oh my!!!----
It's SO hard when they are lost so suddenly...and at young ages!
What a sweetheart!
I'm just amazed at the similarities Maria!---
The one thing I really loved about Emma was her deep red coloring...and Eve has the same coat! It's like Emma has been reincarnated in her sister!
sooo pretty and sooo young...
what a pretty bully
that is way to young..
not sure what IMAH stands for..
sorry for your loss
thanks for sharing
Thanks Pat!! =}
OMG, how tragic
I'm sorry to hear about your loss of Emma. It is amazing how much your new bullie has some of the same traits as Emma. That must bring you smiles and memories of her.
and you are lucky to have other outstanding bulldogs..
your bulldogs are georgous.
sometime I want to come and visit and try to walk 4 of them all together on the beach Barb.
that sig pic makes me smile everyday I see it.
again thanks for sharing your bullies story.
sometimes things happen and at least you have a very similar type bulldog..that is pretty cool.
Dottie, lost her this past October of IMAH
Dottie passed/crossed over the bridge just under the age of 4, from IMAH. I was devistated to say the least. We did everything possible, blood transfusions, oxygen tank and medication. She developed blood clots in the lungs, a complication of this desease. She gave me so much more than I could have ever given her. I miss her so much and everytime I hear of another bullie passing, I hurt for those of you who has to hurt too. The breed is such of no other.
Bless all our bullies, those still here with us and those who have passed.
Maria
Hi Deb!!...
Things are well here...I had to take Eve in for an exploratory surgery on Sat.; she had a long piece of a kong frisbee stuck in her small intestine. Geezo; these bullies!! She's recovering very well and can resume a normal diet tomorrow.
Hope all is well with the NC gang!
It was very hard for my friend too,...
she felt just awful, but really, there was nothing she could have done...Emma ran right in the path of her car. She and her husband took me and Emma to the emergency vet and stayed with us the entire time (my hubby was out of town). Yes, it was tragic, but you can't dwell on it...I guess it was just Emma's time to exit the planet.
she was so beautiful..its
so hard to loose her so young...
hugs
hope that you guys are well

Emma...5/6/07-7/17/08.
She was only 14 months old when she was killed after running in front of my friends' SUV right in front of our house (I was getting ready to take her on a walk and she bolted out the driveway to go see some people who were walking in the street). My dear friends who had bred her, did a repeat breeding to try to get me another girl, and lo and behold, I now have Eve (the only girl in the litter)! Eve and Emma are so similar that it's just uncanny...a true miracle!!
Here's two pictures of them acting and looking very similar.
Emma.
Eve.
Emma was a bit more of a "wild child"...you can see it in her eyes!
Such a sweet boy!---
He does indeed have a look of knowledge about him...you were blessed to have had him in your life Carol.
one of the saddest stories.....
Chief was simply beautiful and left us way too soon!
we were so fortunate to meet you guys
in Atlanta he was a handsome and sweet baby...I have some pics of him in the stroller and his tippies too...

Winston, how I miss him....everyday.....
He was my miracle baby. I had interviewed with a great breeder and when she had Winston, the only one of a litter which came too soon, he was the only survivor, tiny and weak, only 6 ounces. He was the size of less than a yogurt cup. Great care on her part ensured he survived, and I was thrilled when she said she had chosen me, because she thought I was the best place for him. When he reached a healthy weight, I opened my home and heart to this wonderful little soul. He always insisted, when sitting on my lap, to look out, rather than toward me, almost as if he was surveying his domain. He seemed an old soul, knowing more than he should for his age. He was my first and the very best. He grew into a great individual with a face like no other. He died suddenly and even after a necropsy, the vets at Iowa state couldn't say for certain why he expired. He will always be here in spirit and I am lucky enough to have one of his sons.
And always .....Winston
Jacinda, I sympathize with you...
I was showing my grandson our first bully's ashes, Truman, who passed before the age of two. Ethan is all concerned about his lab Jack and how he will come back from the cremation, so I showed him Truman's urn and I still get emotional when I talk about him and can't even bring myself to look at his pictures and it's been almost 10 years.
Kathy, Ollie and Chester
No, I'm not over it
It's really hard for me to talk about his passing. I still cry when I think too long about him.
way to soon
i remember Chief, it was very sad,
that was so heart breaking.....
and it was like two weeks latter my poor wilson got stung...talk about panic....i thought my vet was going to put me in the hospital....
chiefs passing just really upset me....and it took a while to get over...i am sure your not over it yet....
wow..georgous bulldog..
very striking bulldog
love his name too
wow..he was sure young
Chief 3-4-07/7-6-08
Chief died much too soon from complications of a sting.
Grover, Winston...and lots of others...include a pic
I have heard Julia mention Grover tons on her threads. would love to hear a bit more about him too
Winston is georgous...want to hear his story..as well
not meant to be depressing...just getting to know you ...
I don't know for whom I would feel worse...
You seeing her mortally wounded, or your friend who was driving. How tragic.
And always .....Winston
He is a handsome example of these dogs
who take our hearts. I like to think it is harder on us than them when they cross over. I don't think I could handle feelings if they hurt as badly as we.
And always .....Winston
Thank you for your kind words. We both have a special connection
And always .....Winston
