what a morning. tons of emotions going on here..
I had to go and get my hair done today. My hairdresser is deaf. she has been since birth. she uses 2 hearing aids and can speak a bit..but she uses sign language on a regular basis. her husband is deaf too. she had 2 kids and neither of them are deaf.
Gus came along for the ride. when I was done took out Erin to meet Gus. she was soo taken in with a deaf dog and someone giving him a home and not rejecting him because of it. she says Deaf people have a big struggle in society..so she was truly moved with Gus. she signed to him and Gus over bubbly bully that he is..lol is just bouncing around having a great time..
she bent down and gave Gus a kiss and she started to cry and thanked me for TAKING in Gus and keeping him.
by the way she adopted a deaf dog and a deaf cat from a local shelter. she figured she could help 2 ...other animals that were the same as her.
even I was teary eyed..wish I had the camera this ONE time for sure..but not..lol. is that not always the way..forget it when you need it.
GUS is sure having a ball lately. been really great for a deaf dog ...
So glad that I have this opportunity to help a deaf dog too..as an owner
what a wonderful story
it must have been very touching to see her with Gus.
happy to put a smile on your face..
did mine today too
very natural for both of them to see each other..
and me too..Gus is sure making the rounds so the speak lately..l
Gus has been on quite the ride lately.
out and about lots
meeting all kinds of people
and so on
he is helping out deaf dogs I am sure too
people will react differently when they see another deaf dog after Gus..
being a bulldog really helps too though..he is soo darn funny and playful.
I cried today too
very emotional day
good you learned the whole alphabet..glad I could get by with so
try hand signing to the dogs for the day..and NO talking to them..lol.
it is really quite the experience.
all my dogs understand sign language pretty well
although only simple signs for some of the commands..
but they all do it GOOD.
it is reather neat to do it for the day
almost needed duct tape..lol. I talk to my dogs all day so it was a big thing for me.
the deaf dog study showed me lots as well ...
and main thing that came out of it..all dogs can learn basic simple commands in a day..with simple signs..
congrats on learning the whole alphabet.
maybe one day I can help a deaf person..that would be neat
for NOW a bully smile like today had to work..
and it did wanders for Erin and Gus too
awww Pat that made me cry....
how sweet is that....
great job
hugs

I took some sign language at my church....
we had a sign language interpreter for our services, she was amazing - at one point I could do the whole alphabet, but I forgot most of it now....don't use it/loose it
Aww, I would have loved to see that
Puts a smile on my face!

thanks in advance
thanks Dolly responded..maybe I can telephone her or something t
she will have to keep the two of them seperate for now
and learn some fast hand signs
it can be done
i trained all 5 dogs here in a day..with no talking for the deaf study
they all learned, no, down, come all with signs in the one day...
it is not that hard to teach signs
www.deafdogs.org has some great sign language on it..
thanks for your post
I did send her a longer reply on the other thread she posted
LUMP in the throat...me too..
this time it really tugged at my heart and soul.
was very interesting to watch too
Gus just was a natural with her.
I got the book on American Sign Language from her in the beginning when I found out Gus was deaf. she is truly an inspiration herself being deaf too.
she is a remarkable lady..taking in two other deaf dogs..as well.
wow..what a moving response..another deaf bulldog on the board t
yea deaf dog are great really.
I would not hesitate to get another deaf dog again ever.
they truly do move people.
Gus is an inspiration for everyone really..
he is truly a great bulldog..full of life..full of spunk..
that is what I love about him the most..
is his zest for life.
the bulldog up around the corner is doing great too. just heard from them yesterday and Harley is doing really really good. he is going down all the time now and coming when he they sign. they feel that he changed..but he did not change..really..they attitude about a deaf dog changed and how to communicate with one. Harley is making leaps and bounds lately. he is really doing great.
thanks for the compliments
post a pic of your deaf bulldog
would love to see his pic
