he dropped the price by $5,000! New tile bid is $3,835 including the tile. Still includes hot mop. No membrane on floor, just cement board. It's still $900 more than another bid I got, but at least it's more in line with reality.
Very sad that they tried to rip us off like that.
They did another bad thing. Hubby was contracting them to do some more granite work for the main house (2nd bar area.) They bid one price which my husband agreed to. Then I was checking the contract, which he already signed and faxed back to them, and I noticed they raised the price by $300 without telling him. (My husband never looks at what he signs. I know, I've tried and tried, but he just can't be bothered. Can't tell you how many errors I've caught at restaurants. Anyway....) I caught the error this morning. Hubby was so mad, he canceled the contract and emailed the guy about the "error." The guy wrote back saying he forgot the sink was to be under mounted and that cost $300 more. WHAT??? No mention of it to us??
I don't rescue animals because I want to feel better about myself, or morally superior to anyone. The best part of my life with animals is the humility they teach and the humanity the foster.

Not only DON"T hire them, report them.
They need to be reported to the better business bureau. At least there will be a record of their BS going on.

RUN!!!! Run like hell!!!
lol!! seriously, When I was contracting work I would of never got any work if I did business like that. I always felt I had one chance to give a solid dollar bid and if I missed something it was on me and I did eat a few items but it kept me on my toes and ver through about my bids. Now if they made revisions on work under the contract I gave them a price and we could negeotiate it, but I was honest and never tried to gouge anyone. I think my customers knew that, it was seldom anyone batted an eye when given a price.
Show these guys the backside of yourself as you walk away.
They are rip-off artists at worst, or just plain dumb at best...in either case I wouldn't have them in my house...no telling what they might 'break' along their way!
No way I would let these guys touch my house (eom)
Sounds like you should give these guys the flick !
I don't think I could trust them in my house as they are dishonest !!
Same thing happens down here too Elaine and it's a shame we have to be so sceptical , but after all .... it's your money !!!
You've had some good quotes fom other contactors now, I would ask them if they could give you a list of 'satisfied customers' or some 'testimonials' to help you decide. (we did that when we had our swimming pool put in, the 3 people I rang were very helpful and didn't mind the call at all)
Good Luck picking someone you are comfortable with
Cheers
