Sorry I havent posted in so long.....Last nite bubba had bloody stool. On his morning walk he couldnt wait to go, he was running up the drive way and immediately did his business...Whn I got home, it was the same thing, he had to go bad and I saw a trickle of blood on his booty, he went again and drops of blood came out.....The vet told me to feed him bland food and said it could be stress becuz I was at my exes over the weekend.....He is running and playing and acting normal. He ate scrambled eggs for dinner last nite but didnt poop this morning or during my lunch break. If it were something serious, wouldnt he be bleeding still? Or pooping and bleeding? My vet didnt seem too concerned. Just wondering what you all think....Thanks! If if was his ulcer acting up or if he has a bleeding ulcer would that be a symptom?
Two other possibilities
If he likes to chew up sticks, that could be cause enough irritation for the intestinal tract to bleed.
Or it could also be giardia, a parasite that dogs can get from drinking standing water from streams, puddles, plant saucers or birdbaths. Stool can be tested for this, and it is treated easily with oral medication.
Exactly...but I would take him now honestly...we took Winnie aft
ONE little drop and she was diagnosed fast.
I used this food too...and I had to get it at the vets..
only since it was presciption diet..
but I am sure you can get it some place else
it is awesome food
and it is really well tolerated
I used it for a very sick pug and was totally happy with it..
expensive but in a pinch it works
in some areas it does need to be purchased at a vet's office..
I have a store near me that carries it. A case of 12 cans is $24 and that lasts 6 days.

Good for future reference since I don't cook much!
Does this have to be prescribed by the vet?
when Roxy has irritable bowels...
I feed her canned Hills Prescription i/d for a week. She loves it and it's easier than cooking. I feed her a can in the AM and can for dinner.

This is exactly what I would recommend
Give him a rest by withholding food for 24hrs (water or pedialyte is ok)and then feed cooked rice and ground meat or ground turkey for day or two. This mild and somewhat starchy food should be enough to get him back in order (without drugs) but if he continues to have diarrhea and or bloody mucous in his stools, then he needs vet exam and likely some antibiotics (Flagyl or similar) are what's most often given.
My Dozer had this happen when he was 8 motnhs old
He ate a cooked bone that he got a hold of by accident. He had bloody diarrhea and soft runny stools for about 2 weeks. We stopped all food for 24 hrs after we noticed the problem, put him on 2 immodium caplets a day for about 3-4 days and then introduced a bland diet for about 1 week. He was fine after that. Our bullies stomachs are so sensitive. I would keep an eye on him, and if all else fails back to the vet, but my vet said pretty much what yours did, they weren't too concerned.
Amber
My Angel had this last week to. I took her off food for twenty four hours, then for the next four feedings I gave her cooked chicken with brown rice and she has been fine.
no advice but
praying he is going to be ok.
THANK YOU!!!!!
If it happens again...
take him in. Ollie had hemorragic gastroenteritis which started with diarhea and ended up with blood running down his butt. They had to give him iv fluids and flagyl to get him over it. Every time he gets loose now, I start the meds right away so it doesn't happen again. It could just be a stomach upset that is resolved, but just keep an eye on him, bland food for a few days.
Kathy, Ollie and Chester
Well
She didnt seem too concerned, she just said if it continues to bring him in. But he hasnt pooped yet today so Im not sure if its passed or not. hopefully tonite all will be well.....
Re: URGENT!!! ADVICE need ASAP please
has the vet seen a stool sample?
any chance he ate something he shouldnt have?
has he actually been to the vet?
I would at least make an apt. and see the vet (bring poop if you can)
