Hi, I've got a question for y'all, first let me say that I am NOT in favor of tie out, those lines that attach to the ground, as a means of long term containment, but here's my situation....I live in a quiet gated subdivision, very upscale, lots of frou frou dogs, and seniors walking them. Mack has a perfectly lovely fenced in back yard, with an ocean view no less! Does he like his backyard? Not so much, but he LOVES to lay out by my front door in the sunshine about 8 ft from the door. I usually keep the front door open if he's there so I can hear a car or golfcart come by. But if he decided to run and say "hello" to any walkers by or especially dogs(he has never met a stanger or a dog he didn't like!)I would not have time to catch him, and I'm sure his 72 pound galloping to say hello would startle or scare anyone that didn't know him. I do not care for electric fences and there are fencing restrictions facing the road. So would he be stressed if I used a tie out while I'm in the kitchen on the computer 15 ft away???? Knowing Mack I doubt he would even notice if I used one, he's a beached whale in the driveway, I just want him to be safe, from cars and possibly bad reactions from people. It goes without saying he is NEVER left on one and we are talking about 30 mins or so until I decide it's too hot/cold or his driveway time is up. Let me know your thoughts as I appreciate all the knowledge and experience here!

One suggestion with tieout
I would make sure they are on a harness and not a collar. If they do decide to go after someone walking by, the force would be on their chest, not their neck.

chances are
he'll only feel stressed about it if YOUR feeling stressed about it and project that energy to him, i say its def not a bad idea. and it'll get you some piece of mind as will it your neighbors and there little sissy dogs

I see nothing wrong with using it as long as you can still
keep one ear atuned to what is happening. It would give you time to get yourself to the front door...but any loose dog could still approach your own dog.
While I love the folding (portable) fencing I also agree that the dogs can knock it over if they choose to unless you have a huge tree surrounded in the enclosed space (what I do at a park).
I have no idea why this came up twice?
the 'system' seems to be off a bit these days.

I now have a new way of tethering
someone in the front yard...what a great idea. I am going to try it when I am doing yard work out there!

I use tie-outs
I have two bullies and do not have the luxury of a fenced in yard. We play in the backyard with tie-outs. I have one bully who would not run to greet someone (or maybe he would), but the youngest would not even stay in the yard for anything. I have chased him in the neighborhood in my pajamas! It's not a pretty sight! They have no issues with the tie-outs. I would do it for piece of mind.
I tie Boo and Clovis out in my front yard all the time
like most dogs, they seem to prefer being on a leash in the front yard to running free in the fenced in back yard. But, when they are out front, I am at my computer, which is by a big window that gives me a direct line of view to them at all times. And the window is right by my front door. Thus, if need be, I could get to them in about 5 seconds or less.

I had faith in one of those..until..Bella got out of one...
I was in the front yard. the fence was in the backyard...and she jumped it ..or knocked it over..and came barrelling out the front of the house.
a squirrel was running down the road..Bella took off and got hit by some ass talking on her cell phone and not watching where she was going. she ended up being charged for driving under age. Bella was shook up but fine. the suv was not going that fast that hit her.
this was years ago and still hard to talk about it
GET a real fence..you can buy them cheap enough. less then a few hundred dollars..and they are portable and tough. I have one here that is 6 feet tall. I have no worried about this one at all.
if not use a tie out if you need too.
I will not take a chance on that kind of fencing again
that is what I use across my front porch
it works beautifully,I dont have to worry about mine at all
Hi Jiggy and Lola!
Your mom may have been saying hi to Camille, but I know you were saying hi to ME!
Sorry...CAMILLE... I did know
that was YOU...but had Celine's name in my mind...anyway, I think that tying him out is a great option too. My dogs love to roam the backyard and then race through the house to the front porch to greet the postman...hehehe.

Why not purchase one of those
'flexible fencing' affairs made by PRECISION PET PRODUCTS. They are made in the USA here's the # and I am sure they have a web site... they can be made into a containment area and then you know your little man is secure...no chances.

I have several of them and use them for 'make shift' fencing around the side of the house and such. Also, we have a large sunny front porch and I place it there and the gang all sit our and sun themselves. good luck!
