it was my turn to sleep with Lily and it used to be that sleeping with her meant constant getting up. Now she goes out on her own, just one "up" for human to get water bowl changed at night and we're good. On other hand sleeping with Chester is an ordeal, he is up 3-4 times at night to get up to go out (he is weak so he needs help) and my husband unwisely decided Chester needs to sleep in the bedroom (I think he cannot stand to sleep without a bully), so the person sleeping with Chester is sleep deprived. Also, medication makes Chester hungry so he starts to alarm at 4 am. Then, after breakfast, he wants to patrol the house before he decides he is ready for a nap again, LOL.
It is my turn to sleep with Lily this week, I can imagine by the end of this week my husband will change his mind and let Chester sleep with us so that at least one person is of a sound mind...Sleep depravation will do it to you, LOL.
I'm sure you'll work out the sleeping arrangements.
Kist glad to read that your babes are home with you.
Elaine...
she is a cute bully, I sure hope she finds forever home soon...
We have water all over the house, you cannot imagine the set-up there is in my house, but they prefer to drink at night next to the fireplace, and because of all the medication they can empty the bowl in a very short time, so that is why I need to get it refilled, no big deal.
I just hope we can figure something out where one person gets a good night sleep or at least Chester gets better so that he does not need to get up as much. I, of course have a solution, but it takes forever to change my husband mind, LOL. I think not sleeping well for a few nights will do it
Dawn, I can relate to you so much...
yes, Chester is being weaned off prednisone but it will be a while before he is not taking any. But his seizure medication is having very similar effect though: increased drinking, urination, hunger...so nothing changed, just that right now still on both meds it is double whammy.
I never, ever napped in my life, only when sick, but these days if you give me a chance, I am out like a light. I can imagine what you are going through...I am so sorry. You are amazing mommy for your babies.
I keep your sweet Betty in my prayers all the time.
I have not received neurologist write-up yet, I suspect I may get it on Monday when they have all tests from spinal tap. I will send it to you if you want so you can read up on what they wrote on Chester.
Kisses and hugs to both of you.
one suggestion..
get one of those rabbit water bottles and attach to crate or xpen fencing. You won't have to get up and change water. Easy to teach how to use. You just put a smidge of peanut butter on the spout.
OR you could pick up the water at night. I can't do that. Roxy is up at least 3 times during the night, so I totally understand about sleep deprivation. Can't remember my last full night of sleep.
Glad they are both back home with you. Hope you can all get some much needed rest.
Here's my new foster girl, Ivy. She's sweet as can be.
I don't rescue animals because I want to feel better about myself, or morally superior to anyone. The best part of my life with animals is the humility they teach and the humanity the foster.

I know how you feel
When Raven was on all his meds, he needed them around the clock every 4 hours. And also the steroids made him drink and pee more and his enlarged liver put pressure on his bladder, so needed potty breaks in the night. My new normal was up two times during the night with my alarm. And then I would try to nap midday to stay rested. Well, now Raven's gone, but Betty is still on that schedule! She would wake up as reliably as the alarm. I'm refusing to acknowledge her to try to change her habit and she has learned to just start barking by my bed and jumping at it with her body. sigh I've weaned her to once a night. I even bring her into the bed (Raven and her didn't mix up there, but now she gets to sleep with me), but she's still up at 3am for a potty run.
I thought Chester was going off pred? If you are weaning him down, he should stop needing so many breaks in the night soon.
You are such a good mommy!! (and daddy)
Hugs,
Dawn
