SKUNKS..ever had a bully skunked..

since it is that time of the year and the skunks are out in full force. waking up from their winter naps..gotta keep a close watch on the dogs here. skunks are big carriers of rabies too.

ONE of biggest concerns was getting a dog skunked. so I put up a fence and LONE behold last year Bella got skunked through the fence even. she came in and did not notice the smell right off the start. thought it was something else in the house and then I realized what it was.
I used whatever I had here until I COULD GET some skunk off and that works great. I keep it on hand here all the time..just in the case now. she got SKUNKED at 6 in the morning..and it took a long time to finally get that smell right out of her and MY HOUSE TOO.

I noticed this am. there was a skunk out the front of my house..just wandered around at day break. seems my dogs love coffee with Mac and Tilie Mae..these days and on early morning rising routine..lol.

just keep a close watch for skunks
and get some skunkoff
you never know when you might need it

Hope it never happens here...

But we do have skunks around & somethimes we smell them. Our neighbors had a family of them that took up residence under their patio slab. They had to call the conservation agent who came out & finally trapped the skunks. But our neighbors said their house smelled like skunk for the longest time afterward.

When Onslow was a puppy

he got sprayed indirectly. Even just a few droplets the smell was awful.

KEEP a close watch over Bella..

skunks hang out in the same place if they find a good food source
right now the skunks are out looking for grubs in the grass too
the back grass here has all these little skunk holes in it
just be careful and watchful..
you for sure do not want to go through all this to have her sprayed.
it is a yucky thing..lol

wow..Cathy..that is a terrible experience..

it does take a long time for the smell to go away
I am sure that most places have skunks around them
so just gotta be on guard all the time

Not the bully but the others

when we loved in RI and had 3 dogs they attacked a skunk right outside the back door. It was AWFUL! Only one dog had the sense to stay the heck away from that nasty thing, the other 2 went right at it. They just about killed it when my husband finally got them away from it, and he had to finish it. The smell made me violently sick. I couldn't breathe and was throwing up repeatedly. He HAD to clean up the dog that got it full in the face, she was foaming and her eyes were swollen shut, so he took a pair of pantyhose and tied it around his face and shoved 2 Altoid mints in his nostrils so he could breathe. I can't remember what he used on rthe dogs, but OMG that was the WORST thing I have ever smelled.

how funny u ask, I had bella out this morning and it was still p

and I looked over at my neighbors house and saw a skunk! I have never seen one in my yard, I grabbed bella and run up into the house.. can't even imagine the disaster if she got sprayed.

Hope everyone has a great day

I thought the fence was a guarantee not to happen..either..

but did not work
now I have to go out with them in the am.
turn on the back lights and keep an eye out
they are fenced in..
the skunks do not usually come that close to people

we see lots of them in the area that I live
lots of bush near by

Was considering a fence

Hadn't thought of them on the other side of the fence and getting sprayed through the fence but I can see how that could happen.

sure was not funny when it happened...

the skunk sprayed Bella in her face and on her backside.
it is was really early in the am. with the fence I sure did not expect her to get skunked. I guess the skunk must have been walking along the edge of the fence and Bella sniffed it and wham she got it. it smelled more like dirty garbage at first..threw out the garbage bag in the house but when the smell continued I KNEW..lol
by that time of course she had walked around in the house and it was through everything.
had to put out a potpouri to just easy some of the smell in the house. used herbs, vinegar and some cinamon and spices and it helped some.

I hope the heck to not see that day again..but they are always around here..
the dogs getting up early like this scares me..they used to sleep at least until the sun was out ..but not the last few. spring fever I guess..lol

skunk off works the best though
took a few bath
at least it was NOT GUS..he is very thick fur.would have taken alot longer..

These guys still get up early to (like their daddy) and we have a few skunks around too. I worry like heck sooner or later we will encounter....

We had a whole skunk family move into our barn........

I put moth balls all over the inside of the barn and they moved out.Apparently there is something even stinkier than a skkunk...lol
Of course do not place moth balls where you pets can find them. Our barn is outside our fenced yard.
