Removing Tear Stains?

First time posting! My boy is 8 months old, Hank, and I am just wondering if it is worth removing the tear stains in his eye wrinkles or letting them go. I know it's a common problem but his head is all white so the stains are very noticeable! Also .... this is my first spring/summer season with him, so I've noticed him breathing harder and faster with warmer weather but from reading some posts from others whose problems sound more serious I am thinking I will just monitor for now? Any info appreciated.

I included a few pictures so you can see Hank. The pics do not do his stains justice they are worse up close! And always wet, poor guy.

My girl is all white

She had terrible tear stains for a while until someone on this board suggested I give her filtered water. I bought a Brita pitcher and started giving her the water from that (I was allowed to drink it too happy.gif ). Within about three weeks, GONE! Haven't had a problem since. I think some people's water has a lot of minerals in it and that this contributes to the tear stains.

Sarah, on the main page of Bulldogs World

there is a link to information on heat exhaustion/stroke. It is great information!

My girl has tear stains

I am pretty sure at this point that hers are not food related. I just wash her face once a day with a baby wipe to keep it clean. It doesn't change the color but at least I know it's clean. I keep meaning to get some vagisil wipes but always forget! Do Hank's stains smell bad? Like a yeasty smell? Audrey's used to smell, and the SMELL was food related. She is allergic to grains, so eliminating them made the smell go away.
Be very careful in the summer, Hank won't self-monitor his activity level. Heat stroke is deadly!
I need to find some heat stroke/exhaustion guidelines so I can put them on my fridge, Audrey is one that will go and go and go and I still worry that I won't stop her in time. She has a baby pool she LOVES, so we make her stay in it if we are all outside. That really helps keep her cool. We have to be careful of the water temperature though, it gets too hot very quickly and has to be changes a few times a day.

sometimes

the tear stains are food related. you do need to keep cleaning them so he doesn't get an infection. i use damp (not the soaking wet as they come out of the pkg) vagisil wipes. then i dry with a gauze. don't get any in his eyes. heavier breathing is normal for summer time. monitor him as it is SO easy for a bully to over heat in the summer. there are more here who know way more than i and i am sure they can give you some advice as well. you can also do a 'search' on tear stains. enjoy henry!! he is a cutie!! the best thing is to get to know him. what is normal breathing for heim, paying attention when he is out in the heat. you will 'know' when he is reaching his limit. he won't! that is the bully way, so you have to be diligent.

hugs henry!
