Hi Pat,
My husband asked the butcher for a soup bone and he gave him a package of raw beef marrow bones. Is that the same as a soup bone? And it's okay to give him raw (supervised, of course.)? I will store them in the freezer but I read dogs like to chew them frozen as well....
Thanks!
Kim

abbatroie sp?? not sure if that is right..but a meat processing
you can sometimes get bones there for free too.
we have one close to the house here and I go there on occasion and get really big bones..
from the cows. leg bones and all kinds of big bones. they usually toss them so you can get some for free if you there and ask..tell them you have a young bulldog..might make the butcher smile too..
no real marrow much in them..but they are great for a big chew fest..lol
the supermarket usually has soup bones that are larger..
you just need to look for them..
just toss the small ones in the freezer for your own use later..
it won't be long before he ONLY chews the bones..nothing else.
I had a pug that was pretty destructive..in the beginning when she teethed..they really helped her big time..
for the price of the bones..they are not that expensive..once they look like they are overchewed or rough on the edges..just toss them and give Tuffy another one..
dog food places also sell bones that are smoked. you can buy them in all kind of sizes..but my dogs were not fussy on them at all much..perfer the real deal. besides I like the idea of a raw bone better.
Good suggestions...the package of the ones my hubby bought look
I really appreciate all your help. Your advice is right on the money!!

Thaks for the info, Pat
I went to the market myself and found the longer ones (I measured they are about 5-6" long). It came in a package of three. The first two are the right size but the third one looks too thick so I'm not sure how that'll work but we'll see.Tuffy went crazy for it. He's doing more licking of the meat than knawing but he does get a few good chews in. I've been given it to him frozen. Only problem was he didn't want to eat his lunch after having a taste of the raw bone! But he got over that quickly. I also picked up a bottle of the bitter apple spray to keep him off the furniture. Now I just need to watch him like a hawk!

Any specialty dog food store
that also sells RAW food with have RAW bonews in their freezer. Search for Natures Variety dealers in your area and they will also have RAW bones
I get mine from a store called Mud Bay which is local to our area (Seattle).
I THOUGHT he might......lol
dogs really do love them
when you buy them..look for the longer ones..
the smaller ones that come in the packages..just freeze them to use for yourself when you make homemade soup if you do that.
my guys all went nuts over them too
once the marrow is gone...and the meat is gone..he will be left with a bone..and that lasts forever. then if you see him chewing anything that he is not supposed to be chewing..SAY NO..and then give him the bone to chew on..it works like a charm everytime..
just remember always RAW..that is the biggest thing that you need to remember and keep them big enough..3 inches is a good length to look for..
He went nuts for it!
My only worry is that some of them looked a bit small. I'll aim not to give him anything less than 3 inches in length and will save them for special occasions since he has a sensitive tummy...

good point Deb...
that is a good idea...
scoop out some of the marrow..
mine always have some meat on them and that is fine too
they totally love these bones at my house
never seen the bison..
but bet dogs would love them too
those are the right bones..
I would keep one out and use it
then freeze the rest of them..and them out as you need them
I have given them frozen to all my dogs too..they love them frozen as well
might even be better for teething if they were frozen.
you have the right bone..will be great to see how he likes it..
NO doubt he will love them
knuckle bones, soup bones, marrow bones all the same to me..lol
goodluck
Where do you get the frozen RAW bones?
And thanks for the tip regarding scooping out the marrow. Tuffy has a very sensitive tummy so we don't need to make the situation worse!!

Mine love the Bison
Frozen RAW bones I get. I also get the beef marrow bones cut in 3 inch lengths and yes I give them to them frozen. You might want to spoon out some of the marrow as it is really rich and give them the scoots if they aren't used to it.
