possession agression ? sweet bully turns vicious

This problem concerns my daughter's bulldog, Winston. He is a sweet, smart, and happy bulldog. The problem Adminses when I visit...he is always glad to see me, BUT at some point during my visit he will get a hold of a clothes basket or exercise ball and tear them apart. He, as we say, goes "beserk". He viciously attacks the item, growling all the while. He will also growl, and at times, snap at the person attempting to grab the item, making it impossible to get the item away fron him. Any ideas, and thanks.

Yes, he only does this when I'm present, and occasionally when someone else {visitor}is present. He doesn't do it when just my dtr. and her husband are there. I believe he's fine with taking food bowl and toys away. It's almost as though he has something to prove when I'm there, he's the boss!

Does he act like this when you are not present and when you are not present can your daughter take toys, items etc away from him without him growling at her?

Re: hmmmm........

I think he considers my son -in- law the alpha, but he exhibits the same behavior with him. He usually does what he's told, but when he gets like this, forget it.

hmmmm........

if a doggie growl at the person... that means he don't think u r the boss... and doggie will not growl to their alpha... is there any clear alpha in ur house.. like ur girl... or u....?

Re: possession agression ? sweet bully turns vicious

I dont think it has anything to do with who is the boss. My guess is, he is just getting overstimulated by the excitement of having company. When company arrives, before he starts to act up, put him in his crate with a Kong stuffed with something really yummy so he can get his brain to go somewhere else and relax. Also, does he have any solid skills such as sit, relax down, etc. Your daughter or son-in-law could work on them to keep him occupied. The more stimulated he becomes the more he acts out, the more people are trying to stop it, the more stimulated he becomes and the more he acts out. Goes in a circle. Give him something to do before he starts that is relaxing.

Good luck

Some aggressive behavior can be thyroid related

Has he had his thyroid levels checked? Just curious. It can really tweak them.
