OT..for JD and others...MY BLIND PUG..and his story..

JD asked about Otis and since I do post him on some threads thought I would tell you something about him.
I gave my ex a little pug for Fathers day...bought her from a local breeder. she went blind early..and the breeder offered me pick of the litter ..and I could keep the little blind pug too.
I went to pick my puppy and it was a H...LL. hole there. slop out of a dish and terrible the whole inside of the house..she had an outside kennel that did not look that bad..but the puppies were all thrown together. a bull in there pregnant with his displesia and the list goes on.
all the PUPPIES were deathly sick looking. I GRABBED one of them and that was OTIS. I left he was 3 weeks old but figured he might not survive if he stayed. all the other puppies in the end died in this ladies care.
I came home and called the spca..and they went out and checked her. at that time she got scared I guess and let 30 pugs go loose on a main highway here up north. she was charged and later closed down.

I learned a valuable lesson..do not buy from a puppymill and for not a backyard breeder. I ended up with 2 blind pugs..the one one is with my ex still. otis is here part time.he is 9 years old.

I bought all my other dogs from that day forward from show breeders that had some pet quality dogs.. both Gus and Bella and all the pugs came from show breeder homes..

here is OTIS

he might be blind, but he is mighty..lol. he can jump on the chair at the table..no issue at all. he is great in a power failure does not bother him one bit. an ezcellent little watch dog and he is cute.

My ADHD son raised him from the start. My sons marks went from 50 to 80's and he won the most improved student award...could not and did not hang with friends..he stayed home and cared for otis and studied and studied. great pair..

here is Kyle at Christmas this year

he was soo small..he could fit IN YOUR Hand..

that gives you can idea how small otis was.
he weighed just over a pound
so he had to be weighed on the kitten scale.

I guess Kyle was 16 at the time..

OTIS is almost 9 and Kyle is almost 25 in the summer.
he was having a terrible time staying focused on anything....was getting into trouble in highschool..marks were terrible and he was a peer follower.

all things change when you are a DAD...lol. we joke about it now..but seriously he got up every couple of hours everyday to get the extra milk and nutrients into him.
OTIS went through a detached retina ..life threatening surgery at 6 weeks old. not sure who was harder to handle..Kyle or OTIS. Kyle took care of him when he came home too..he had to keep going back to the vet and wore a cone for seemed like months until the eye healed. he was blind but he was bleeding from the inside of the eye.

KYLE also did a speech on Otis in highschool that placed first too. about how he showed him the way..lol. kinda cute. on graduation day..I dressed otis in a grads outfit as well.
they are totally glued to each other. OTIS totally adores Kyle..

he does ok ..getting some grey on his muzzle..but he other then doing good..for a dog that was not supposed to be here

what a GREAT story!

how old was Kyle at the time?
ADHD people are the best ones for tasks like that because once they have their focus on something, it's hard to distract them away from it. I have 2 adhd'ers here and it can get challenging!
That is just awesome how he took care of that babydog, SO SWEET!

thanks Kyle just turned 24. and very glad that I have Otis..

Kyle would have failed miserably in school if not for otis. I was recovering from major surgery when otis came here and Kyle decided that he should take care of him. he was adhd and I said NO way..but he said he could do it. he only weighed just over 1 pound..and he slept in a shoe box on Kyle's bed each night. he would get up for extra feedings and we used some puppy replacement milk as well to help him out a bit.he was really sick. the vet did not think he would pull through no matter what anyone did.but he did.. he is small only about 16 pounds....

I have 3 pugs here now...too. so when Otis is here part time during the week..that is 6 dogs here..and wow can be a chore..hahahhaha but fun too at the same time. everyone gets along pretty good for the most part.

Kyle did a speech on otis for air cadets and how Otis saved him..really really cute. and very very uplifting to listen too..
otis is a charmer

thanks fof the compliment on Otis and Kyle.

yea some things are meant to be..

they were definetly made to be with each other.
Kyle used to take OTIS in his old car and he would sit on the subwoofer and listen to Nickebak..lol. we used to laugh cause he just loves music and still does..both him and Kyle.
We took Otis to a few local parades and he would go out of his way to find the music being played..
they did great for each other..Kyle and otis both

The power of love

They obviously needed eachother and today both are thriving. Great story!
