I hear the robins but do not see them. been looking. took Gus for a walk this am. but did not see one.. I know they are back some neighbours have seen them. a sure sign that spring is coming.
today I have to empty all my birdboxes from last year. I get tons of nesters here each year. from flycatchers to swallows, hairy and down woodpeckers and small owls. also on occasion had a bluebird. chickadees too and nuthatches. MY bird boxes are used for winter cover as well..so clean them out in the springtime.
I also put together a nesting material box at this time of the year.
put in yarn, string, celophane wrap, fluff out of the dryer unscented, undyed real hair, feathers, whatever else I can come up..lol. it will get used.
I feed my birds all summer to control my bugs around my house. the reason that I feed birds for the summer..is so the mother can take some seeds for herself but she needs bugs to take back to her nest for the little ones to thrive. most birds eat their own weight in bugs in a day...when feeding little ones.
SINCE ONLY the insect eating birds will use the birdboxes..even though they can be sparrows and starlings...they all eat tons of bugs. I have no problem with bugs around my yard.
ON a side note birds do not sing because they are Happy..they are very territorial. you should hear them out chirping this am.
Thank you.
Miss Tillie & Mr Moose
just a skip across Lake Huron..lol
I know they are hear
just can not hear them
love the jolly roller in the pic
bought one of them for my bullies here
wish I had bought red since most dogs prefer the reds ones..
neat toy though
and great looking bulldogs you have there
the more settled you..the more settled she will be too..
these bullies pick up on us all the time and our emotions
plus the fact that bullies do not like change..
I remember reading somewhere in a stressful situation you are supposed to say it is OK then the dogs name several times a day..supposed to be help
try the lavander for you and her too.
what is Audrey like OUT of the house??
Thanks Pat for thinking of us
Baby is due April 18th, and it has been a rough pregnancy for her. I just posted about how Audrey is having a difficult time with all the turmoil. I hope the 'worry' emotions settle down and Audrey has an easier time with the happy emotions soon to come.

my bleeding hearts will start to come up soon too I would think. but the time the hummigbirds are back..about the start to mid May..they are in full bloom and larger plants...so looking forward to them too
how soon is the baby due Cathy
been thinking of the baby and you and your daughter
wow..cool pics..
for sure a purple finch
not sure what a mockingbird looks like..
we have them here but they are usually hiding in the brush..I can hear them though...they mimic really really good
same with the catbirds too
I should be seeing some golden finches soon too

chickadees are thick though out there

Sherryl
I just love your signature pic. Cracks me up every time!
No Robins in my yard yet
House Finches and sparrows. I think this is a House Finch at the feeder. And a Northern Mocking bird, that I'm mad at, he ate here all winter and has now moved on to nest.
Steve
we've had robins for about a month or so.
lots of birds in my yard- were seeing gold finces right now
Sherryl, Onslow and Buttercup
true the robins are back first ..I try to put out some fruit for
they will go for fruit pieces..so try to do that for them for now too.
but with some snow still on the ground...not a good time to head back..lol
we have more snow called for this weekend here.
will not be much of it anymore I doubt though
Hummingbird stories....and other fun things to do for the birds
I get lots of hummingbirds here too.
I only get them for one week at my feeder then onto the bleeding hearts as soon as they bloom. then the lilies
I do not get more then one or two pairs Max a year..they are very territorial over the garden with all the flowers.
we had a hummingbird nest in a lily flower the one year. pretty cool. hummingbirds get all that they need from one lily flower to last the one day.
they are very interesting to watch...and very territorial..quite the display during the mating time too..
we to see a few more bluebirds then last year.
for fun out out half oranges.for the orieles in the summer
we had at least 10 of them here the one time
a pound of peanuts in the shell will attract a whole neighbourhood of jays..we had 20 plus at one time here too.
Robins have returned here too...
Poor things, they always return a little too early before the weather is settled.
Pretty Please...
I love birds, and our Robins are back!
We've had beautiful Cardinals this winter, the neighbor behind me feeds the birds all winter. We feed them most of time, but I will admit I get lazy in the cold weather.
We have a lot of Robins, they are definitely back! And I hope the warmer weather is here to stay too.
I have a soft spot of hummingbirds and blue birds. We get hummingbirds every year. Next month will be time to put the feeders out. And talk about territorial birds! I think they take the cake.
Enjoy the birds!!!
It's funny you asked, when I read your post, one appeared right
that is by my desk. I have a table on my front porch and it landed on the table as I was reading your post. It couldn't have been any more than 5 feet from me, tho separated by a window.

Tina ... That's Funny
those woodpeckers can be real annoying. We have the crows that are forever dropping stuff on our porches. The back porch has a bunch of empty peanut shells on it. They also pick through the gutters flinging stuff all over.
And here I thought they were chirping, saying "Come-n-get-it..Fr
Yep. AND a crazy woodpecker trying to find a mate decided....
....it would be best to drill on our aluminum chimney cap. At 7:00am. Every morning.
I can sympathize with the little fella, but drilling on an aluminum chimney cap reverberates throughout the whole house. Sounds like a jackhammer!
We bought a plastic owl to put on the roof, but never got him out there because it wouldn't stop raining on our days off from work and I was afraid of slipping off the roof. After a few weeks of going outside to yell, clap, and stomp my foot at him, he's finally gone. Either he found a mate or moved on to a neighbors chimney. It's good to finally get some sleep again!
