I am buying a new phone today...I have Verizon wireless. Do any of you use any of these phones, and what is your opinion of them?
Droid - Motorola
Droid Eris
Omnia II - Samsung
Palm Pixi
Any info would be much appreciated:-)

Mine too
Same deal. I use it constantly (in fact, I'm using it now to view BDW & post this message). The hard drive in my laptop crashed last week and this phone has been a lifesaver!
With the hard, clear plastic case it's pretty durable. So far no issues from dropping it weekly.
mine was free
100.00 credit and then 100.00 for signing up again.

**************THANKS FOR ALL THE INPUT!**********
I will be looking at the Droid and a couple of other phones. I have had Verizon since they just about started, 1999. I usually have cool phones, but they stopped making the kind of flip phones I like...the heavy duty ones that don't break when they get tossed off a horse by mistake or dropped multiple times on my tile floors. Gotta be a tough phone for my lifestyle!

And . . . here is a great message board for Droid and Eris owner
http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/
The Droid and the Eris, along with many other smartphones, use the Android Operating System that is put out by Google. That's why this message board is called "Android Forums." Altho the Droid and Eris don't yet have as many available apps as the iPhone, that will change very very soon because Android is an open operating system versus the closed operating system Apple uses for the iPhone. Another big plus is that the battery for the Droid and Eris is removable, unlike the battery for the iPhone.

Forgot to say, I got the Droid for $99 and you might be able to
I was near the end of my previous 2-year agreement with Verizon. The price of the phone is $299, but there was a $100 rebate offer. The salesman told me I was also entitled to another $50 off as an incentive to sign another 2-year agreement. When I mentioned I had narrowed my choice down to the Droid and the iPhone, he suddenly said, "oh, I meant you are entitled to $100 off, not $50," lol. You gotta play a bit hard to get, lol. Also make sure that they don't make you pay an activation fee. For $99, the Droid is a pretty darn good phone.
The iPhone and the Eris are cuter to look at, but the Droid's screen more than makes up for that.

I have the Motorola Droid
it is fantastic. The screen is the best quality and largest one of all of the smartphones I looked at, including the iPhone. After lots of research and looking at quite a few different smartphones, I narrowed my choice down to the Droid and the iPhone, and ultimately went with the Droid. Being able to read the internet from your smartphone is just awesome, especially when you are doing things like waiting at a doctor's appointment, at an oil change place, etc.
The Eris is pretty good too, it's sort of a stepped down version of the Droid, i.e., a smaller screen and the same operating system but a lower version of it.
Also, from what I have read, Verizon by far has the best national coverage. I've never had a dropped call.

I woudn't get one because...
I wouldn't get anything named Eris. She was the Roman Goddess of discord and chaos. Why did they name it that? It's a big corporation and someone in marketing must have known. Bad, bad juju to invoke Eris.
Thanks Tina:-) I will look at that one more closely:-)

Hi Amy
I have the Droid Eris and LOVE it! My only complaint is texting or typing on the keyboard takes some getting used to because the letters are so small, but I've adapted.
I would also recommend getting some spare chargers and keeping one in the car, one at work, etc. because the batteries on smartphones drain quickly due to all the apps. Finally, downloading an app such as Advanced Task Killer is an absolute essential to save your battery.
Have fun with whichever phone you get and feel free to email me if you get the Eris and have a question : )
