and really miss it, even tho it only goes away for about 4 months per year.
I can still remember back when I was in the military, I saw the movie The Last Picture Show. The landscape really stuck in my mind ever since then becuz it was so bleak, almost no trees or grass. I thot all these years that the director probably just exaggerated the look. But then a couple moved next door to me. The husband worked offshore 14 days on, 14 days off. During his two weeks off, he was out in his yard virtually every day doing one thing or another with the lawn, the trees, the landscaping, etc. He turned a plain looking yard into something spectacular. One day we were talking with another neighbor who mentioned something about living in the southwest and how there was not enough green there. I mentioned the movie, how bleak it looked, and how I could not live in such a place if it was real. Well, turns out my neighbor grew up just a little ways from where the movie was filmed, and he said that is why he is now such a "tree hugger" and "green lover."
I do think most of the southwest is very pretty, but I don't think I could live there if I had a choice. Of course, many people who experience one summer of Louisiana humidity say the same thing about down here, lol.
