What is wrong with kids (who are really adults) getting their own insurance. Really how long do these kids have to live off their parents?
I think if they are going to college and not gainfully employed then yes but 26. Last time I was in high school you graduated around 17 or 18 and that meant you were done with a 4 or 5 years of college by 22 or 23. Then allow some time to be gainfully employed.

Suse (Germany), etc. all think they live in a "socialist" country?? Every one of those countries, as well as every civilized and developed country on earth, has national health care. Medicare is national health care for those 65 and older. Does that make the U.S. a socialist country? The highways you drive on were built by and are maintained by the U.S. government. The public schools your children went to were built by and are run by the government. The police forces and fire departments you run to when you need help were built by and are run by the government. The military that defends you was built by and is run by the U.S. government. Does all of that make the U.S. a socialist country?
A socialist country is a country where the government owns all of the means of production, i.e., the oil companies, the TV stations, the auto manufacturing companies, the newspapers, the pharmaceutical companies, the home construction companies, etc. That is not what we have in the United States.

one of the things I find so amazing is that the people who are the most vocal opponents won't hesitate to run for Medicare benefits when they reach the age, or much earlier if they become disabled and can't work.
I really don't understand how any middle class person who has to work for a living can be against it. Because of all of the price fixing and crooked practices of health insurance companies and other, only the extremely wealthy can afford to pay for their own medical care. Even someone who was as wealthy as Christopher Reeve quickly learned that. When he became a quadriplegic, his medical bills hit the $1 million cap of his health insurance policy within a year, and then he had no health insurance.
Pointing to the billions of dollars each year spent by the insurance companies to spread their propaganda and scare tactics, the author John Grisham said it better than most have said it . . . never in the history of human existence have so many people been so duped into going against their own interests.
As for the scare tactic of "socialism," I suspect the people of Britain, France, Germany, Japan, Canada, Australia, etc., all of whom have national health care, would be surprised to learn that their countries are "socialist." Especially Germany and Japan, both of which rose up from the ashes of WWII to become two of the most successful capitalist countries in history.

And it was close to 100,000.00 to have it done, plus all the meds, follow ups, everything that went along with it, total that to about 120 grand. My kids have NO money, and only my son in law works so my daughter can be with Audrey. Guess what? The portion their insurance didn't pay...my daughter researched for months and found a group, a private group, that will fund non-insurance portions of surgery for children in need. If you do your homework in this country, you CAN find people and groups, both private and state run, that will fund you in situations such as theirs. So to say that she is a have not, that is wrong. They have a low income right now because of a deaf child in the home, but they still received the top care in the country with a bit of research behind them:-) We didn't need the government to help us with it...thank you very much!

There are multiple organizations and places that give help to those who cannot afford it on there own. My grand daughter just had Cochlear Implant surgery for both ears. It cost 100,000.00 total bill. You think my kids have that kind of cash hanging around? Nope! But Texas does, and their insurance paid some, and my kids wound up getting assistance from the state program and will only be responsible for 3000.00 of the total overall cost of the surgery. Obviously, if they can get help, so can others who need it. It's called research, asking, looking, and finding. Simple as that. Those who say otherwise haven't taken the time or expended the energy required to find a program that will help them without being on welfare and getting it all for free.

We HAVE to buy insurance for our employees or we will be fined huge sums of money or put out of business....and we are a start up with little cash to start with. How are we going to afford insurance for the guys, when we can't afford it yet on even ourselves?? I love my healthcare in Canada, we can walk in to the emergency or Doctor's office, and not have to worry about a bill.
