I was thinking of taking Maggie with me to the parade - on a harness and leash of course. Just want to make sure she's not too young to be doing this. (She's almost 11 weeks now - in case that matters). I know there's going to be a lot of people there, but thought it might be some good socialization for her. We would be sitting in one spot, not walking through large crowds or vendor areas (dont want to risk her getting stepped on). Any thoughts?
LOL Good thing to say to them! I'll have to remember that! n/m
I know it..glad we had breaks and water stops
along the way!! out of the several people who loved her, I heard 2 people say she was ugly I told them she thought they were ugly too.lmao!

It was great to meet you all too!!!!
I'm so glad you found us! Marley is just a doll! I've had a long day! Just now able to get on here! Maggie slept for about 4 hours once we got home! I thought she'd never wake up! LOL Absolutely you can post the pics!
it was great to meet you Carrie and Maggie!
wow, I so tired, just from bringing Marley and stopping every minute.. Look for us in the Tallahassee Democrat newspaper...but when from I walked back to the car, I realized how good Marley did..She got a vanilla ice cream from Sonic afterwards:)may I post pics that I took of Maggie?

My bulldog vet said
no public places until 16 weeks and fully vaccinated....there is a ton of dog junk going around out there right now
are you going to Springtime Tallahassee?
when my male was a pup we brought him to a event..and was almost trampled!! Then when people stopped to pet him, it held up lines of others who were upset they couldn't get by....so, maybe if you could hold her awhile till you sit?Or is she too heavy?

Last weekend, I marched with Long Island Bulldog Rescue...
Suffolk County Bulldog Meetup and Long Island Bulldog Club in the St. Patrick's Day parade. We had about 50+ bulldogs there. Some of the dogs were okay with the noise, some where not and it was a surprise to those new bulldog owners.
I would say go....as long as she has all her shots. But be prepared as she might be freaked out by all the loud noises.
Yeah, I figure I'll end up holding her some too!
Thanks!
Thanks! Good idea! n/m
I would say go.
I took Georgia to a Santa Claus Parade in Dec. I hardly saw any of it--soooo many people and kids asked to pet her and questions etc. It really was an awsome socialization experience for her. She was 6 months old at the time. She was not bothered by any of the parade noise--she actually fell asleep in my lap. I took a blanket with us for her to lay on. I ended up just wrapping her up on my lap with it.Have fun if you go
hey there
you may want to ask your vet, just to make sure the shots have her covered. Also I would try to keep her away from other dogs, just for now in case they might have something. Just a thought, bet she will be a big hit!!
She's current on her shots -
Yeah, I kinda thought she might get a lot of attention too. My nephews will be there and they haven't seen her yet, which was another reason I wanted to take her.
Thanks for your response!
If she has had all her shots, then it might be ok.
Also, you could carry her for some of it.
When you go to something like this with a bulldog, expect A LOT of attention.
In fact, don't expect to enjoy any of the event except for answering questions, posing for photos and letting people pet her.
People love bulldogs and a puppy well that's over the top cute.
Woof!
hoping we can make it!!
I will def.look for you guys if we do go!!

No, I don't have a coat, but
I was thinking I'd bring 2 blankets - one for us to sit on and one to wrap her in (if she's cold) til it warms up some. And yeah - it wouldn't really bother me to leave early if I needed to, so if I thought there was an issue, I'd definitely leave.
I picked up Bella and took her out fairly young too..in public
good exposure
if there is a big issue you can always head home..
that is what I thought too
socialization is very important very early..
Bella is super around people as is Gus my male bulldog
both were socialized lots as puppies and even now as adults..
do you have a small coat you can use on her in the am.?
if the weather is a bit nippy for her
Yeah, I was planning on bringing some bags! LOL
Hope to see you!
Not too hot, and I'd be under a tree....
I was planning on bringing a ziploc plastic food container with water in it also. We wont be doing much walking for this, but I'll check out the link!
Thanks for posting that!
Our lab wasn't properly socialized when he was young and he is scared of EVERYTHING! I refuse to let this happen to Maggie too!
It was a HUGE mistake for us to wait until Audrey was fully vacc
before we took her out.
Someone here a bit ago posted this, and I will follow this recommendation next time I have a puppy....

Cathy
when she first came home
Not sure yet..
but since you will be on church grounds as well, make sure you bring your poopie bags for those puppy poops! Mine would go right in the middle of a sidewalk.LOL
If I do, I will look for you and introduce myself:)

If..
If it's going to be hot, then leave her home unless home is nearby and you can take her back if she gets overheated or tired.
It's a great opportunity to socialize and expose her to stuff, but it will make your day be centered around her needs rather than you just being able to go and do what you want to.
If you plan to take her out and about with you a lot, I highly recommend getting the Pet Gear AT3 stroller. Check it out at Amazon.com. Bulldogs get tired fast and you could keep her out longer and walk around more if you can just zip her into a stroller and push her along. My dogs love to ride in their strollers when they get tired. Only problem is that people stop you every minute wanting to see the cute bulldog.
Forgot to add...
We've taken her to a couple places where there were several of our friends around and let them hold her - she does well with people. The breeder had 3 kids of her own, ages 5 and up, so she is pretty well socialized.
It will be a little chilly in the morning, but
then warming up into the low to mid 70's. Her last vaccines were the 12th of this month. We've got an appt for her next vaccines a week from today (April 2nd).
I wouldn't ... because of her age
Is it going to be warm? It also may be a little overwhelming if this is her first socializing experience.
There is so much disease out there and Parvo can be deadly.
When was her last set of vaccines?
LOL @ wanting to kiss your dog! n/m
Yikes! I'll definitely call them! Thanks! n/m
Yes, I am
We usually get there about 1 hr and 15 mins before the parade starts so we can get a good seat. It should be ok getting there, and of course when we leave, I would carry her. It does get crowded leaving. We were planning to sit in front of the old church - we usually sit on the steps, but I was thinking I'd sit on the grassy area beside the steps - it's kinda like a steep hill from the sidewalk to the road, so usually there's only adults sitting there (of course the kids are always close to (or on) the road. Figured that's my safest bet so she doesn't get trampled.
Are you going to the parade?
I hadn't thought about the load noises from the floats
and such. Sounds like a neat event you marched in!
attention paid
You have no idea how much attention bulldogs get until you have one at a public event. you'll get stopped every 10 feet. People will point and take photos and stop you to talke and pet the dog. It's not like any other dog.
Sometimes people will tell us that they really wanted a bulldog, right in front of their own dog.
One woman asked my, "Can I kiss your dog?" Of course!
Woof!
