OK silly question for everyone!!!

I've noticed quite a few people have said lately that they don't have air conditioning. Maybe it's cause I live in the south, but it is so hot!!! How do you guys live with out AC? Yes, we have high humidity, but I can't even imagine being with out it. Especially in California, Adminzona and those dry-hot places.

So who has AC and who doesn't?

carly

p.s. Poor PJ would die with out his cool air and fan!

we have central air..

with 1 bully, 4 cats and a guinea pig, we need it!

Just curious about winters

Does it get real cold there in winter?

Also lived in Calfornia

Although now in Gilbert I live in Calf. till 1994 never used air but did think 80' was hot until I moved here.

I Live In Gilbert

Were in the Gilbert Area and vist Cave Creek from time to time.

We have air, it runs all day no hotter than 74 here in So Calif

My husband works nights so we need to keep the house cool during the day so he can sleep. And of course for Lily.

Air Conditioning

We live in northern Kentucky and I can't imagine living
without a/c, plus I run my ceiling fans year round.

Thanx! Wish I could take credit for that one,

it's one of my favorites.

Our gas furnace

has gone out twice this winter, a friend owns a furnace company. He is putting in a new one with a A/C unit as he gets them for cost and will install it for a nice steak dinner.....

Our windows are tall and thin, we can not find one that will fit, we have seen the free standing A/C but it will be about the same cost.

love your stories!!

love your stories, and that was a great joke? very true!! ha! ha!

Einstein and Relativity

Now that I think of it, we had what are called ceiling fans in my parents' home when we were children. Didn't get A/C until I was in junior high. Those ceiling fans were actually pretty cool at night. So I guess it's all relative, i.e., if you've never had it, you don't miss it. But once we had it, there was definitely no going back. [Heck, I can even remember when we didn't have color TV, lol. And, horror of horrors, when I was in college, there was no cable TV, no microwave ovens, not cordless telephones, and God forbid, no Internet!!.]

Speaking of relativity, I heard this joke (or perhaps it's true). Someone once asked Einstein to explain his theory of relativity in language an average man could understand (note man, not woman, lol). Einstein reputedly said: "When a 20 year girl sits on a 70 year old man's lap for one hour, it feels like just 1 minuted; but if a 70 year old woman sits on a 20 year old man's lap for 1 minute, it feels like 1 hour. That's relativity!"

A/C an absolute must in Louisiana

I wonder how people survived before electricity! Can't imagine what it was like to work in an office building from May thru September.

Yes in Massachusetts

2 window units keeping 3 rooms cool.

Yep we have central

here in Georgia.

Florida, we'd be crazy and drenched in sweat with no air!

I don't think houses in Florida come with out an air conditioner. I'm with you, I feel that it's amazing that some people don't need a/c!

Emily

same here in Chicago

gets way too hot for us all, epsecially up on the second floor.

Central Air for us in Nebraska!

And ceiling fans on 24/7!

I'm with you Mike,

I have had AC everywhere I have lived, even here in NH

KY

I couldn't live without AC no matter where I lived.

Re: Life without AC in Texas, NO WAY

True, our average summer temps is 110!!!!! from late may thru early september it will be 100+ every day nearly! 105, 102,115,118,113,105, then it will drop to mid 80s almost over night in mid september to late sept, will be perfect by first week of october, upper 70 days!

No Air here...

I live in Canada, close to Vancouver...and MAN is it HOT here.

The thermometer in my family room is currently reading 90 degrees....

I am melting:-).

DON AND VICKY

What about maybe just a single window unit, i think a few hundred bucks and could be taken out after summer. In iwa we had a window unit, no central air, kept the front room and kitchen cool, or you could put it in a bedroom or area where the dogs stay! In Nevada without air you would be asking to die! we have 2 central air units, plus 3 fans going, and about a 300.00 a month electric bill to go with it!

I don't remember ever not having A/C and I'm OLD

I'm 47 and I can't remember ever living anywhere that didn't have A/C. As a child, we had window units and then changed over to central air. I've lived in Michigan, Ohio, Florida and Tennessee.

Now my oldest son is an airconditioning man. Oh yes, and I used to work for an A/C company too.

Which city are you in in Arizona?

We are in Phoenix near Cave Creek.

We have a/c in Phoenix AND Prescott.

We never had it in California though.

Life without AC in Texas, NO WAY

We have central air and heat. You cannot survive without an AC here. Not only is it extremely hot, the humidity will kill you. We have been under a heat advisory for the last 3 days. Temps topping out at 109. My electric bill this month was $300.00. We can't wait until evening when we can sit outside in the nice cool 90 degree weather. (Of course, you then have to deal with the mosquitoes!)

SC here, it is a MUST

I think I would wilt away, not to mention what it would do to my lil Tankster!! I think I began running my central AC this year in mid-March. We'll probably run it until time to turn the heat on.... around November if we're lucky! As you said, the humidity is just plain AWFUL, especially here in South Carolina!!

Cathy and Tank

Don we are looking in to it too

when it's hot here it is hot and I want A/C...

Los Angeles

We have it, don't use it. Just doesn't get hot enough. We try to remember to turn it on a couple of times a month. Our bullies spend most of their day sleeping on the cool kitchen floor.

Fort Irwin CA here--Middle of the Mojave Desert--Have to have AC

Ha! We're in CT and have three window units!!

I can't imagine life without A/C. And I know Grover would just shrivel. The humidity is killing even ME lately...

Julia & Grover

AC & Ceiling fans for us

Kelsey enjoys her walks and rides in the car but we schedule them around the heat of the day. And believe me, she loves the coolness of the tiles and one little fan low to the ground. She loves the cool sea breeze at night down here in Florida. Oops, oh yes, she'll take a cold slurpy ice cube any time!

California..

And I DONT have A/C. I live in Norhtern CA, about 30 minutes from the coast. We have a few HOT days here and there, but never long enough to need a/c. On the really HOT days, my bullies get a wet towel and a fan!

No AC in Oregon

But when we move to New Mexico in a couple of weeks, we will definitely have it. It doesn't get too hot in Oregon. On the few days it gets above 90, we just keep the house closed up and turn fans on. The boys' favorite treats on hot days is ice!

Arizona

Have to have air for my bullies and ME much tooooo hot

Old home-a few window units

We live in a house that is over 100 years old. Thus no central a/c-at last inquiry it was about 25,000 to install it! So we have one unit for the downstairs and 2 upstairs. We also have fans everywhere to circulate the air. We also shut everything up during the day-pull the drapes and with our house being brick it usually keeps it super cool.

Although I hate humidity myself so that is one positive thing to look forward to when the house sells!

KB

No A/C Here...

Im only about 5 miles from the beach so its usually pretty cool. Except for right now that is. UGH. Hubby and I dont have any bullies yet but are seriously considering having A/C installed before we do! Gonna have some spoiled bullies in our house, for sure!

PJ..We feel the same way........

I have my AC on all the time plus have fans going too. Before we brought Dozer home we had central air put in and I LOVE it!!!!!!!

Give PJ a BIG ((((((((((((HUG))))))))))))) from us!!!

David, Holly, Dozer and Angel

Please do Maggie Mae...

You can come live with me! Or I'll come live with you? I like the pool--hum we may have to split our time up at each place...hehe

pj

Belmar, NJ

Yes we have AC...too hot in the summer and I'd never have a good hair day without it!!

PJ.... No AC here....

Maybe I should come visit during hot times..... I do have a pool though... and I sleep with a fan blowing right on me.

I live in Western Washington along the Puget Sound and

most homes here do not have A/C. Our temp is usually in the mid 70's. This year we have had some real heat and I am considering A/C. I have gotten along without it since 82, but maybe it my old age.....

Dogs love the weather here.....
