Mama Jo had her tail amputation surgery yesterday...graphic pix!!

She had an inverted tail-I guess that is what you would call it with lots of wrinkles. Here are some pix of her before and today (1st day post-op)...

1st morning post-op..I think it looks pretty good!!

She had a very quiet night-which is unusual for her-she was always up alot itching-even with benadryl, cleaning, powder...I tried everything!! I am really hoping that she feels 100% better once the pain is gone...

She is VERY upset with me for doing this..I have never had to take her to the vet and leave her without staying and yesterday she had to spend most of the day there and then with the pain from surgery...I am sure she thinks I hurt her!!! Hoping she forgives me soon:((

not just my bulldogs, but my heart & soul!!

Cody..if your bully is anywhere as miserable as my

mama jo WAS, I would definately consider it. She doesn't seem to be miserable at all. We are giving her pain med once a day and an antibiotic. She is like a totally different girl already:))
So far no regrets at all!!!

I would go by what your vet recomends. Both of the girls

tails were really bad. They never had any issues once this was done, but like all surguries there are risks involved. Many people on this site have had there dogs tails removed. The only thing that I noticed is that I had to wipe there butts everytime they came in. Just kept baby wipes by the door and we were good to go.

I 'm sorry, I'm unable to post pictures. Kids keep saying

they'll come an teach me.

My vet is who has it on the table...

she had done many of them and has found that they always help. It is me who is still thinking about it. I trust my vet whole heartedly but...

I think it looks great!

The thought of having my girl's tail amputated is still on the table for us. Glad to see that it went so well and it looks so good post-op. happy.gif

I'm so curious about this

Hurley has a tight tail pocket and we have mentioned amputation as an option. What are the worries you had? Any possible spinal issues or nerve damage issues?

I had to have both of my rescues tails removed due to

being infected and way to tight. She will forgive you and be ever grateful, no itching, pain, smelly butt. It took about a week for them to really settle down with it, just think how long this has been going on and then they were the happest girls, butt wiggles galore, but without the hateful tail.

Wow

I think it looks pretty good too. From all I've hears from other people on the board, tail amputatations can make all the difference in the world in making a bully feel better.

I'm sure she'll forgive you happy.gif

Thanks for the tips..she is feeling much better as the day goes

she will be so much happier

I waited 2 1/2 yrs before I had Sumo's removed. Chronic infection and odor and nothing helped. He was so much happier once it was gone and his recovery time was pretty short.

You could apply warm compresses to help lessen swelling. I would wet a washcloth and nuke it, then when it warmed up enough to touch I would hold it on the area. Ake loved it and would lay there and purr.

Hope she feels better soon.

I think the vet being confident is the key

Our vet didn't sound confident that he would be able to do it with no problems, which is why we decided not to, at least until we find a vet who can do it.
I'm so glad everything came out well. Give hugs from us!

She look's great so far.

Wow, her tail really had some turns and wrinkles. My Dottie had an inverted tail and I had to clean it all the time.

I'm sure your girl will feel much better. I hope her recovery goes quickly.

Our vet was very confident that there would be no issues with

spinal problems or nerve issues, so that made me feel better with our decision. Not to say there aren't those concerns, but he felt he had done this proceedure many times without problems. I asked!!
