she has Luxating Patella, Vet did say some can live with for a while, but she also has Rupturd Anterior Cruiciate so he says that needs to be repaired and should do both while they are doing ligament, He said recovery is 8 weeks, I know there is alot worse things she could have but to me this is bad. Since I know others have had these surgeries can anyone please advise if the dogs make a atleast 90% recovery, my fear is that she isn't going to be able to run, jump and play like she use to..
Hope everyone has a great day
(((HUGS!)))
I don't have experience of advice on this type of surgery but I wanted to let you know that you and Bella are in my thoughts.
Andre'a
great recovery
My Gia had both knees repaired 4-08 TPLO Bilateral. The first couple of days were tough for her and us. By 4th of July she was healed 100%. But since then in the last couple of months she has developed a limp in her front left leg after running, playing and jumping. Which of course breaks my heart all over again. So we went back to the vet and they couldnt find any tissue or ligament damage in her front limbs. They beleive the limp is from her over compensating from the knee surgery. We tried pain meds and those didnt work so they talked me into acupunture. We had one appointment two weeks ago and she immediately stopped limping. I am still amazed and she has 3 more appointsments scheduled. My point is you might want to talk to your vet about the acupuncture prior to the surgery.
poor sweetie
not advice here, but will keep your sweet girl in my thoughts, good luck
Thanks, this actually was the second opinion, but it's only one
she has two separate issues with the same knee, I would never have surgery on both legs at same time, Dr said could hold off on the Patella but since cutting that leg to repair ligment we should fix the patella also.. it made sense to me..
Hope everyone has a great day
I agree. A second opinion from a good bulldog vet in another off
the more info you have, the better you will feel about your surgery decision and the type of repair you choose.
I recently fostered a rescue dog post op long term after he had both knees repaired at the same time. We adopted him to a wonderful family who reported several weeks later that his knees were giving out again. They elected to have TPLO on one knee at a time and he is doing well after his first surgery. His mom sends regular update pics. The latest pics sent were of him in hydrotherapy with a big smile on his face.
I'd get another opinion
before I had luxating patella surgery and knee surgery at the same time.
Cleo has had a knee surgery which was the right thing to do but she was also diagnosed with a Grade 3 Luxating Patella on her other leg and he suggested surgery. I decided not to do the surgery and a year later he said she was just fine. Patella seemed good. That was almost 2 years ago and she is fine.
So before you have the surgeries done...please make sure the vet is a good bulldog vet and in this case I would get another opinion.
poor Bella

Well poo
Bella, I'm so sorry you have to go through this. Well, at least it's something that can be taken care of, but still. Eight weeks of recovery is going to suck.
Mind you, mummy is going to spoil you SO bad...
Oh poor Bella!
You both are in our thoughts!!!!
