I haven't posted on here in a long time and haven't had much time to lurk lately either. I wanted to stop in and get your opinion on something. Maxwell, our older bullie who just turned 3 in December has been limping for the last week. We noticed it out of the blue last Monday night. I can tell it's his back left leg. He seems to be fine in the morning and towards the end of the day he can barely get up. We don't know of anything that he did to hurt it and he has never had an issue with his legs until now. He had xrays taken yesterday and there are no fractures or obvious inflammation. He has been on anti inflammatories and pain medication since Friday. They seem to help with the pain. Last night he got to the point where he wouldnt sleep and kept crying until I gave him some medicine which helped him back to sleep. The vet said it's likely early arthritis. I guess I am hoping he hurt it and that it's not arthritis. We don't have any experience with this so any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I did buy some glucosamine today and thought I might start him on that when he is finished with the other medicine. Thoughts??
You're making me blush....
Thank you! Made my day.
UBAVET GOLD...give it a try
you can ONLY get it at the vet. My vet swears by it...$80.00 for the large container but it lasts FOREVER. they love the taste of it, liver/glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM and a bunch of other healthy things...comes in~32 ounce container and you use 1 and a half small scoop per day.

Did they do hip xrays to rule out hip dysplasia too?
If it is arthritis, definitely look into Adequan injections.
Give the joint supplement
It certainly can't hurt. Because he's limping and in pain, make sure it has glucosamine, chondroitin, and MSM.
My Kano has arthritis, and it was diagnosed by xray (narrowed joint space). Also, she's usually more stiff in the morning (after inactivity) and improves with light exercise.
I would ask the questions the others have suggested. The crate rest Amy was talking about is a good idea. Also, leash walking, no jumping on and off furniture, no roughhousing, etc.

I would ask the same thing Suzette asked...
Did they rule out an ACL injury or Luxating Patella? As for the glucosamine, I give it daily, even if they are on meds. I give 1000mg in a capsule form that I just put in their evening meal. I put a tablespoon of plain, fat free yogurt in as well to help with digestion and it also covers up the glucosamine:-)
Crate rest would be best, let him stay quiet and off the leg for a week, then see how he is doing with the medicine, glucosamine, and rest.

Did they rule out other things like
ACL injury or luxating patella? Did the vet point out the arthritis?
I have not used this supplement but wanted to share it with you. I saved the link in case I need it in the future.
