Im going there this weekend to see a litter of pups. I've talked to a few people that have said good things and have read the owner's letter on their site. Everything seems to look ok but I figured I'd ask on the board first.
Any comments or concerns about this breeder would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

I live in North Western NJ....I backed away..you can't see the parents because the parents aren't there...I think they are a middleman so to speak... I finally took home a bullie rescue and will add either a pup or older bullie in need of a home next year.
Be very carefull!!! Ask tons of questions as they should also ask you if they care where their pups are going.
All these opinions are helpful!

Im now very suspect and on the lookout! I want to go up there and see them anyway...its only an hour from me so its not a big deal. Plus Im trying to see as many litters as I can.
Are there any other signs of a puppymill that aren't in the article? Any clues that might give away bad care other than the obvious?
I wish I could bring a consultant with me...hahahaha
Webmaster did give me others...

to contact and its helped a ton. Those people have put me in contact with several others that either have pups now or will be expecting pups in the next month or so. I have people emailing me daily with others they know who can try and help me find a reputable breeder and healthy pup.
Just my opinion,...

Hi,
I have run across the website of Iris farms when I was searching for a breeder last year, and while I don't pretend to know much about what's considered acceptable breeding practises, red flags went up for me when I saw that not only did the place advertise Bulldog pups for sale, but also Boston Terriers and Pugs. Plus the fact that they are a true working farm, with horses and other large livestock. It seems to me that they are very busy running a business, not laboring for the love and betterment of any individual breed. They may be perfectly fine, and work very hard to raise healthy pets, but I chose to look elsewhere.

It should be noted that I also said of a few places to check out. I informed of the club sec'y in his area and a well know person who posts here to contact and a breeder in New York I know for information. I had nothing on this breeder but a breeder should be in the BCA or local club/ plus breed AKC dogs and you should start with calling numbers of past buyers...You may also want to contact the local club to see if they know anything or get rescued dogs that come from that breeder..web
Sorry

But as I understand it, they broker puppies from other parts of the country. I do not know this to be a FACT.
I have had personal dealings, but backed away. A year or two ago, there were some pretty strong words said on this forum about them.
ALL puppies are CUTE! But I was not impressed with the ones they were offering.
Please be careful, and remember, it's VERY HARD TO WALK AWAY FROM THOSE DARLING LITTLE BABIES once you've seen and held them.
Buyer beware!
JMHO
I would take Liz's advice and contact some of the KNOWN GOOD Breeders in the area first!
checked with the webmaster

The webmaster said that he'd never heard of them so that could be a bad thing and a good thing also. I've read the puppymill article on this site and on some others. Judging right now Im not sure. I won't be sure till saturday when I go see the litter. They do have a health garuantee but I can't remeber what it is. I'll let everyone know on saturday what the verdict is!!

be careful

of course they will put satisfied customer letters on their website
i wouldn't judge a breeder on their website, no matter how fancy...or crude it may be. anyone can put anything on a website.
i've seen their site, and i also get the local paper (journal news - westchester/putnam). their phone number, as listed on their website, is in the paper selling puppies every week, for the past couple years.
while i do not automatically think a breeder is bad, if they advertize in the paper, i would be VERY careful of one that does, especially if it is year round. i have never called to see the availabilty of pups. get references, talk to the vet, and meet the dogs, etc. get that health guarantee and read the contract.
if you are looking in the ny/nj area have you called the long island bulldog club or the nj bulldog club? there were LOTS of pups at a match show i was at earlier this month, from repuatble breeders. go to http://www.bulldogger.net to get to each clubs site.
good luck,
liz
Never heard of them

Haven't heard of Iris Farms. What are the peoples names? Do they have a web site you can tell us?
Have you emailed to the webmaster to see if he has anything on file with them.
Read the article on the home page on how to spot a puppy mill web site. They know all the things to say that sounds great. What you want to know, are they members of BCA or a Bulldog Club, do they show, what is their health guarantees and contract, etc.
