the fracking of natural gas on the NOW program on PBS. This was the first time I was ever aware what that was, and that it is done in over 30 states.
It's NOT done in the state I live in, but I was curious to know if you happen to live in a state where fracking of oil or natural gas is done. I quite honestly was surprised that the fracking for natural gas in done on people's prperty where they live.
I usually don't cry a lot, but I did when I was watching this program. The sight of the sick cat and horse were so sad, as well as hearing about the people who have gotten so ill.
I have taken having a safe water supply and safe air to breathe, for granted. I won't ever take it for granted again that I can drink clean water, and give safe water to my dogs.
I'm glad I watched the program because I had NO idea this was happening.

Woof!
I hadn't heard of it either so I looked it up on line...
I found this article and I think I get what it is, I'm not positive but I have an idea of what it is now.

Yes
We have a large amount of natural gas here in Arkansas but up until 4-5 years ago, the technology was not available to remove the gas trapped by shale. The county where I live has a huge number of wells with more being drilled all the time. So far, the closest well to my house is about 1/2 mile.
I can see the good and bad points of this process. But, as far as I know, the wildlife is fine and so is the water supply. The EPA tightly controls how the waste is disposed. The land owners have gained financially during this tough economy with gas leases and royalties. One thing I have noticed is an increase in earthquakes in the area. I have not felt any tremors but there have been several small earthquakes recently and I wonder if all the drilling may have something to do with the increase. We do live on the San Andreas fault but very rarely ever had any activity.
