a year, probably going on 2 years now. We have had fantastic results. The dogs coats are gorgeous and their faces are as white as can be. We haven't had 1 single issue. We placed a few puppies last year who went to their new owners and where switched to different foods because the owners just didn't feel comfortabole for what ever reason feeding Pedigree...The 3 that didn't keep their puppies on Pedigree have recently switched back to it and are already seeing possitive results. The one pices of advice that I would give anyone switching foods is to give the change a couple of months to settle in. We love Pedigree dog food and couldn't be paid to change.. -Brian
but when I asked my vet he said Tuffy was too young and not to worry about it until he was a couple of years old. So now I'm wondering if I should start it sooner...

but that may just be because some dogs, like people, have stronger or weaker kidneys than others. But the two vets I spoke to were pretty adamant that damage is being done even if the reaction is not immediately observable.

I have tried California Natural, which has grains and Spike did ok, coats weren't the est, alot of shedding, and a little dry feeling, no anal issues. no fl biting, and Jackson had no tremors, then switched to Nutro, they did well on it but Spike started with this anal issue. Now he is bac on California Natural, but his tear stains are terrible, The others were on Blue buffal basics, they did ok, but tear stains, and Jackson started on the head tremors again, so I pulled him off of it and just started on Wellness simple solutions duck. Lola I am afraid to try on the duck as she vomited it all up right after eating it the other day. I think I am thinking too much about it and might just try pedigree too
Lost one of m males at 6 due to cancer, then I lost two more males to kidney failure 4 and 3. I lost my oldest male to bloat, I had had enogh and got obsessed with bulldogs!

I changed Mr. Higgins to this about 3 months ago. I was hoping his toes would not bother him as much. So far they are still red (interdigital spaces)but not quite as bad. I had to cut back on the amount as he gained weight on it.

On all three grain free foods, Boo immediately developed seizures and started urinating in her bed at night. Two vets I spoke to said grain free kibble has too high of a percentage of protein and it thus puts a big strain on a dog's kidneys. My other three dogs, tho, had no problem with it, or at least they didn't for the two or three weeks I fed it. I'm guessing, and it's just a guess, that they probably would have developed problems over time.
I now feed dry food that does have grains, but only good grains and none of the bad ones like wheat, soy, and corn. All four of my dogs are doing fantastic on the food, but, damn, it's expensive. If you only own one or two dogs, consider Wellness Super 5 Mix, the "Large Breed" formula. It may cause loose stool for a week or two, but afterwards, it is great. It is also one of the few foods I found that has a meat (chicken, turkey, salmon, etc.) ingredient as the first 3 ingredients. Most dry foods I've looked at only have one meat ingredient among the first 5 ingredients.

doing really well and they love it. I mix the pacific stream with the buffalo to change flavor then go with the pacific stream alone then back to mixing. hope this helps.
This food thing is so confusing. I want to do what's best for them, I think I have tried all the good foods out there. Natural Balance, Nutro, Caifornia Natural, Blue Buffalo, etc. I know wth 8 chnces are they al can't be on the same food, but not I am doing three different ones. I have to go and buy food tomorrow, so I will take a loook at pedigree and see what happens.

fish oil, etc? I have been chasing the perfect food too, and have little runs of luck but then its back to the tear stains, cruddy rope etc. Im thinking food is not the answer. Boogers breeder is an elderly lady and is retired from showing and judging now, but she still breeds her dogs occasionally and she feeds alllll of her Bullies food she gets from the seed and feed down the road. She said its a good protien percentage (22%) and she makes her own "canned" food from ground up meats and veggies leftover from dinners or on sale at the store. She makes it in a blender using rice and freezes it and then thaws it out in small amts at a time and mixes it with that lesser expensive dry food. Her dogs are GORGEOUS! I think I am going to start doing this for my dogs as well. I have been thinking a lot about Pedigree and was wondering if you give your dogs supplements too?
grain free (at least no corn, wheat, soy or glutens in the food, they do contain brown rice and/or oatmeal which I guess qualify as grains) I have had one on TOTW but am now introducing her to Nutri-Life Golden Duck to see how it agrees with her. The price is a bit better for the breeder bag and the ingredients are good. They do not have the varieties of protein sources to chose from that TOTW does--ie. venison, buffalo, etc.--but they do have a couple other formulas--All Gold and Active My other girl eats Diamond Naturals which is also corn, wheat and soy free. I alternate her between the chicken and lamb formulas. The price is good on this one too. She seems to do well on it. I know of several breeders that use this food and are happy with it.

Back in the day, I would gasp inside if someone told me they used Pedigree. I used Canidae and when my dogs stared getting sick from the new formula, I did not know what to do. I have Shar-pei and Bulldogs, so I called an old time breeder of shar-pei in the West coast and she told me she has feed pedigree over 20 years. So mine has been on it also going on two years. I sometimes mix it up with Kirkland. No problems here.I also use seameal powder and pet tabs.
Great point! Can you recommend a good joint supplement?
I would actually start Tuffy on one now but with his transitioning to a new food and his tummy issues I'll wait till he's more stable.

can't hurt him.
Mine are all started on a joint supplement before a year old.

Ajax is adorable!

See I agree that too high protein content doesn't work
becuase Spike devloped fly biting seizures when on TOTW or wolfking, pulled him off of it and went to a lower protein content and they stopped.
Not us...Pedigree
Pedigree Adult Complete Nutrition and all 4 are doing awesome.
Back in the day we use to chase that perfect food and now we have a whole different view on dog foods.
