I've seen so many great and creative names here. How did you pick out your dogs names? Also, what kinds of nicknames do you have for them and how did they earn the name?
Bailey's name is actually "Buttercup Bailey's Irish Cream. I picked Buttercup because she was so dainty and delicate. <snork> Okay, really her first name came from the times that she visited our house before I ended up adopting her (owner surrender) I used to call her my little buttercup.I think it had something to do with the fact that she was a monster when she was a pup! The Bailey's irish cream was two fold. I named her for the mountain town of Bailey CO and the drink just fit right in because I've always named my pets after places and food. (Arizona is Adminzona's porkchops and applesauce on her AKC papers). My son wanted to name her Louisiana.
Her nicknames are Tank, H2 and lil hummer. She especially got those names because she barrels around and things just seem to crash all around her. She even took out my broyhill dining room table once because she ran by it and it the leg just right with her broad shoulder.
I can't wait to hear how you guys came up with your names! I love them all!
Thanx, those are great pics!!
great colors!!
Maybull's name came from...
We found Maybull's name (this spelling) in a baby name book, and it seemed perfect.
Her AKC name is Sweet Patootie. It's from a song from 1920s or 1930s Yiddish theatre;
'Brains and beauty are not birds of a feather
You will never find them together.
For, where there's brains, you won't find beauty,
You won't find brains in a sweet patootie.
Castor oil will cure you of your faults, faults, faults, faults.
Castor oil will cure you of your faults.'
Here you go, Gary...pics
I lost the thumbnail picture because I used the original and didn't save as..
This picture was taken 5 minutes after we got home. She has drool all over it.
This is 2 minutes later, the ball was already deflating. She's such "gentle" girl. lol
Rebecca & Greta
Rebecca, have you ever posted a full size version of your thumbn
would love to see it, if not.
We picked a name...
that wasn't too common. We liked old movie stars and Greta Garbo was always one of my favorite. She was known for her beautiful face and we knew our bullie would be just as beautiful and she is.
Rebecca & Greta
Well....
Mopsy was chosen just because I liked it, she really shoudl have been spot.
Charlie already had his name at 10 months, but I most say it fits him perfectly.
Star was named because she was born really black and her full name is "Enchantment's Midnight Star"
Macky was named because ALbert always wanted a boy named Macky. His full name is "Enchantments Marvelous Macky"
Boo came from Halloween and To Kill A Mockingbird,
which is my favorite novel and movie of all time. Clovis came from a cat in a Stephen King movie called Sleepwalkers. Not a great movie, but the cat was the hero of the movie.
they learn fast and don't really care what you call them...
The new owners of my 14 month old rescue< Moses (Moe), changed his name to Buster. Actually I liked his original name, but who cares what they call him as long as they love him.
When I seen the name I wondered if that's where
you got it....LOVE CHUNK!!!
Chunk...
(Coming out of lurk-mode to answer this one - work has been crazy & we're in the midst selling the house so I haven't had much time to play on-line lately...)
Chunk was named for a character from the movie Goonies (he even does The Truffle Shuffle). He's also known as Monkey (or Monk), Baby Boy, Sweet Pea, Fatty Boombalatty, Dirty Dawg, Stinky, Meat and many many more.
Named him after...
The professional wrestler Bruser Brody, Sorry we are NOT Wrestling fans, but.... Our son picked out the puppy and the wrestling mania was wild in Oklahoma at that time and Josh thought Brody would be the ticket. Our best friends have the litter mate to Brody and his name is Brutus. So.. we have B & B
Bailey's old name
Was Beulah. Since she was young when she came to my house I changed it, but I wanted to stick with something "b". I didn't want to keep her old name because a. I didn't like it, and b. she didn't have the greatest of lives back then and I wanted to wipe the slate clean and start over with her. She's very well adjusted now though!
Names
Champsky was already named. I think we should call her Murphy because of murphy's law. We call her meatball when we are petting her belly. She's my little meatball.
Angus and Ozzy
Angus - AC/DC was on the radio when we got in the car right after we picked him up.
Ozzy - Black Sabbath was on the radio...
Nicknames - Angus is Bubba, Big Bubba and Stink Bottom...Ozzy is Little Man and Super Freak. Both boys together are Boys and Stinkies.
Bay's Parents
I don't know how common it is for the breeder to leave the name field blank, but when I aquired Bailey when she was six months old her old owner gave me all her paperwork and receipts. She had never filled anything out and the name line was blank so I got to name her all by myself. Bay's dad is named "Bruttonamus Beef-eater and her mom's name is PC's Fancy Fosse. She came from a breeder in KS, but I don't know what the kennel name is, just the breeders name.
We celebrated Bay's "Gotcha" day on June 22nd. Her actual birthday is Dec 10th 2001. She's a lucky girl. She gets two birthdays!
Actually Junior's AKC name is Tiki Muggs...
he doesn't look like a Tiki to me at all.
both came with their names...
I've started calling Roxy, my rescue girl who came to me with that name, Roxanne. I don't know why. Junior is Junior because the breeder thought he looked just like his daddy. It's a perfect name for him because he is a little boy in a big dog suit.
She was the little girl I never had. Couldn't let the
name go to waste!
We call her either:
Molly, Meatball, or MooMoo
M
Well...
Ruby's full name is Aro's Crowne Royal Ruby Red. Aro is what I call my hubby, his name is Aaron, and he's the one who first really wanted a bully..so without him I might not have had my little angel. Crowne Royal is my mothers favorite whiskey, and Ruby Red is my favorite fruit juice. I thought it all sounded good together.
We always call her Roo, and Roobs, and I don't have any idea why I started calling her My Princess Pie, I think it's because she is a real sweetie pie and a princess, so I put it together! Oh yes, and I also call her My Beautiful Girl, I tell her she is beautiful every day!
I don't know how I got Bama out of Bahama
What Bruiser doesn't know won't hurt him, shhhhh!
Zimmer is named for Don Zimmer, ex-Manager of the NY Yankees
I wanted to name him "Bucco", for Artie Bucco of the Sopranos. But when we saw his father, he looked too much like Don Zimmer to us!!
LOL
I just had it in my head that Bama was probably named after the 'Bama Crimson Tide (college football).
And poor Bruiser, can he live it down that he's named after a chihuaha?
Re: How did you pick names for your bullys?
AJ was named after my initials... Adam John. His nickname is The Beantown Brawler.
Ruby..
Ruby Gem Stone a.k.a. Ruby G. Stone
She got Ruby because both kids, and my husband were born in July, plus our anniversary, and ruby is the July birthstone. Gem Stone came from my daughter who liked a cartoon character by that name. It all just fit together perfectly.
We call her Ruby Doo, Rueben, Roob, Brat, and the most common one I use is 'Lil Mama' or 'Mommies'....don't ask, cause I don't know.
Well
Bruiser's name is Quidnunc's Gallant Golddust after his Grandsire, Medbull's Golddust over Kelloe. His street name is a result of my watching Legally Blonde one afternoon after we got him. Yep ole Bruiser is named after a chihuaha, LOL.
Bama's name is Dulcinea's Bahama Breeze. I wanted something pretty that started with a B. She got her name after I heard a commercial for a new resteraunt in town called Bahama Breeze. Can you believe my pretty little girl is named after a bar!!!
Darla is a rescue, did not know her name as she was loose
on the streets and ended up in a shelter where BCA rescue stepped in.
Her name is from Darla on the little rascals. Lucy my cat is from Lucille Ball of course.
The next Bullie I get will be named Maxine..from that old spicy lady comic that circulates
