My name is Karin and I read here all the time but often don't post. I love the site and am addicted to it every night. I thought what I went through might help many of you with cody.
I have three bulldogs one of them being a rescue. I have to let you know that all of the pictures and descriptions about Cody are exactly that of my rescue mac. The good news is that right at this moment he is sitting under my chair kissing my other bully! We have had him now for two years. The story is that a family had been evicted out of their house in a neighboring town. They had two dogs, did not want mac but wanted the other. They left him there. He was living outside on a concrete slab for almost 6 weeks surviving on his own waste. He had not been indoors in almost a year even when the previous owners had him. My husband heard about him at a memorial party we were at and took off with a friend to save him. He did not want me to go because he knew I dcould not handle walking into a bad situation. Thankfully he was still alive and next on his way to our house. He had no hair, both eyes were clouded over and full of puss, he could not hear because his his ears were exactly like cody's pictures, his genitals were two times his size from infection, his chin and nose also had suffered from frostbite and he had several lumps such as described in cody's situation. We took immediately to the vet. The vet thought he had ringworm it turned out from numerous tests and weeks of keeping him isloation it was a yeast infection. The Lumps were from malnurishment, his ears were cleaned out, it took him awhile to get adjusted to hearing again to this day he still does not respond right away. The vet advised us that is only because he went with it for so long. We had numerous tests done for his eyes. Thankfully it was not cataracts but dry eye where his tearducts produce 0% of tears. This was from being out in the elements. Most likely he will one day go blind from this, we put drops in twice a day along with cleaning. He still has scars allover his body from where he was on the concrete. I know this is long but my point is when I first saw this dog I thought he will never make it, we spent months and months and an enormous amount of money rehabing him, yes he does come along with his issues but eveytime his does something I remember how fortunate we are to have had the chance to save him as is this wonderful board in their attempts with Cody. We never thought mac would make it but as I said he is hear right now and we deal with his health as things Adminse but he is happy! Keep your heads up think positve because anything can happen my bully is proof of that.
re: Heads Up
For those who don't know, Spike was found at 35 lbs (he's now 62lbs and normal weight for a male) in NY city as a stray, and had been a stray for sometime to show up in that condition. His ears were so severely infected and injured that he too lost hearing out of them. Skin problems, eye problems, paw problems, you name it, he had it.
The rescue/shelter had him in Vet care/foster care for months, and to this day I continue his care with ongoing Vet visits (on a very regular basis). He's come a long way.
Bulldogs have a determined unbreakable spirit.
So glad to hear
It gives us all hopes for the Cody. Send us some pic of your bullies.
Thanks, you give us encouragement for our baby:)
Maybe eventually we can save the world;-)
That is so beautiful.
What a wonderful story. It makes me want to go and hug my bully right now.
Karin...you can not know what your story did for my heart...
thank you ...I have never felt that Cody won't make it..even when the realities seem to argue with my heart...I made him a promise and somehow...I will keep it...he will have love, mug hugs and his own heart and home to rule and own...
just because this has become more complicated...to me it just means ,like I stated yesterday...that Cody's miracle in the middle of happening ..not concluded...smile
...and his body and life has been damaged but his little spirit and soul shine up through those clouded eyes ..and he is all trust and love....thank you again...you don't know how much your letter helped...ce
