Has anyone's bulldog acted kind of odd the last few nights?
Submitted by Clovis Boo Flyn... on April 21, 2010 - 12:41amI read a post on another board about a friend's bulldog who kept waking her up last night because he would sit up and stare at nothing and otherwise act restless. Flynn has been acting similar the past few nights. She will be laying down in a deep sleep, then suddenl sit up, sort of look around with a worried expression, stare for a while at nothing, get off the bed and then back on almost immediately, etc. And another person also said her bulldog has acted odd the past few nights.
I found this an odd coincidence. Then as I was coming back from a doctor's appointment this afternoon, I heard a talk radio host say that some dogs in his area were also acting odd. And then he wondered aloud if it might be recent earthquakes and aftershocks on the west coast, and the dogs somehow picking up some indicators related thereo. At first I thought, no way, that's too far away. But then I remembered that a huge earthquake hit St. Louis in the early 1800s. It was so powerful that it reversed the direction of the flow of water in the Mississippi River and it made church bells ring in Boston. So now I'm wondering if maybe the talk radio guy is right, maybe it was the earthquakes/aftershocks.
Anyone else notice anything odd the past few nights?? Other than the usual UFO abductions, that is.

We felt the mexicali quake, it made a surface crack in our pool.
and the dogs were a little restless, I'm sure they can sense the aftershocks even if we can't.

Fonzie is usually dead to the world from 9 PM until whenever we get up but a few nights ago he woke us up at 3:30 am just sitting in his crate growling. I stormed down stairs to see what was wrong because he NEVER does this. I let him outside and he went potty but didn't really act like he had to go. He then proceeded to do the same thing at 7:30 am. (He NEVER wakes us up in the morning-- I have to coax him to get up) He got us up the next morning at the exact same time doing the exact same thing. We are in Ohio... I don't know what the heck caused him to do this but we racked our brains wondering what the heck was making him get up like that. So odd other people had similar problem!!!!
Exactly . . . Flynn doesn't pant either
she just sits or stands and stares. Very interesting to hear that this is happening in different areas of the country.

I live in Cali but Bubba has never been bothered by the earthquakes we have had. He donesn't even realize it when they happen. The last few nights he has been barking at nothing! He will stare outside and bark, I go look and theres nothing there. Other times he will bark at nothing inside the house! And this just started a few nights ago. Not sure what the heck it is!

The last 2 nights, George has woken up and just sits in the bed and looks at us! He's not panting that he's hot or wants water, he's just up and sitting there. Most would think, well that isn't weird, but we know George and usually he's dead to the world allll night!
Yes. Spanky has been waking every night...
and barking for no apparent reason. If I take him outside and he can see that no one is out there, he will usually calm down.

I hadn't noticed anything lately but...
When we did have an earthquake in 2008 (in St. Louis), Maude woke up and barked right before it began. I do think they are much more in tune with minute changes in the atmosphere.

Yes, Wooly Bully was acting very odd last night. He usually sleeps all evening on the sofa; but last night he kept getting up and walking around restlessly, often sitting or lying in corners near to where I was sitting.
In bed, it took him about an hour-and-a-half to fall asleep. (He usually goes out instantly and stays out all night.) He kept getting up and moving, often sitting resting his head on the footboard of the bed. He was also breathing very quickly and shallowly.
I thought it was because it's suddenly gotten very warm here, but who knows?
We're about midway between Philadelphia and New York.

there are earthquakes now every week!
