Has anyone tried the new natural balance dog food?

I'm thinking about switching Mason's food once again because he has major yeast problems(ears and body smell like yeast). Right now he is on natural balance fish and sweet potato. I have tried the duck and venison by them too and the duck he had yeast problems and the venison he had crystals in his urine so i'm wondering if I should even bother with trying the bison and sweet potato kind with him. Like I said he has been on all the grain free natural balance foods, taste of the wild, and when he was a puppy(he will be 6 next month) I tried Wellness and he had major stomach issues. Does anyone know of any other food I might could try? He is allergic to chicken(eggs too of course), beef(milk too of course) and it needs to be a grain free food. I think I have about tried everything that doesn't have any of those in it so I don't know what else to do. I would appreciate any suggestions!

Food

Mine are on Canine Caviar, Lamb and split pea - they seem to do very well and like it. Good Luck with the quest - it can be a difficult one.

how do I restrict purines?

Belle has crystals in her urine. I'd like to figure out a natural way to eliminate them. The vet put her on Methio Form pills, but she absolutely hates them.

She ate Canidae Lamb and Rice for years because it was the only food that kept her ears clear. I took her off it when she developed the crystals. She's on NB Duck now.

I used to fed Natural Balance but after a while I had issues....

So I switched to Wellness Super5Mix Large Breed formula which my dogs have been on for over three months and all is great.... no more yeast under the nose rope, or yeasty tail pockets, and they don't have a funky smell which I contribute to the Canola Oil, Wellness uses Salmon Oil. I even tried the Wellness Super5Mix Large Breed Puppy on a recent litter and I LOVED the results.

I fed Natural Balance all flavors for over two years and while they did well on it I still had to stay on top of their ears so they wouldn't get yeasty and constantly clean under their nose rope and apply Desitin because if I didn't they would get funky and yeasty as well.

I have a friend who feds Nature's Variety Instinct Rabbit formula. She has had great results with it as well she was a avid Natural Balance user as well. I wanted to try it but there isn't a dealer in my area so I went with Wellness and so far I am glad I did.

Just my opinion,
Dee

If you yahoo search teh word purine, it will give you some good

for information. Here is a list of some foods high in purine;
# Anchovies, sardines in oil, fish roes, herring.
# Yeast.
# Organ meat (liver, kidneys, sweetbreads)
# Legumes (dried beans, peas)
# Meat extracts, consomme, gravies.
# Mushrooms, spinach, asparagus, cauliflower.

This was just from an article dealing with gout in humans, but the high purine foods will be the same in our food or dog food:-) If you research Natural Balance ingredients you might find what is causing the crystals in the urine. Just a thought, I don't know:-)

Mason only had this problem with the venison food

He didn't have the actual stones that he couldn't pass. It was just gritty crystals in his urine. The vet did put him on medicine for a little while to see if it wasn't the food but that didn't work so well. And that was when I changed him off of the venison food and like I said I haven't seen anything since.

Crystals in urine

If he has actual crystals in his urine, you need to restrict the purines in his diet and make sure he drinks lots and lots of water.

I did an article about Dalmatians and bladder stones, but some of this could apply to any male dog. Bladder stones are not a problem in bitches as they pass them with ease.

Woof!

Im at a loss too. I have nowhere else to turn...

I will feed him Alpo before I go back to Canidae, and Wellness Core gave him poop that looked like frozen yogurt. Im at a total loss as to what to try next. When I first switched to NB, it was the duck and potato and his rope cleared right up and the wrinkles and ears dried up and everything was white and pretty. No tearstains, and even under his rope was white and dry. I just want to get back to that. :O(

Re: dang. Booger pees outside.

Well I don't see how you could even tell if he had crystals then because of course you can't see them when they pee outside. I also have about had it with natural balance...I don't think I am going to try the bison because Mason hasn't done good on any of their other formulas but like I said before I have no clue what else to try.

dang. Booger pees outside.

I guess thats a good thing but crap! How am I supposed to know that now??? I really am at the very end of my rope with Natural Balance. sad.gif

Crystals in urine...

Mason sometimes uses pee pads and I could see the crystals on the pee pads. As soon as I took him off the vension I haven't seen any crystals since(knock on wood!)

How did you know he had crystals in his urine?

I have had the ame problem. Potato and Duck was great til they changed the formula. He immediately got all yeasty and nasty under his rope, in his ears, etc. I couldnt keep up with it- clean it in the morning and by nightfall, under his rope looked like the inside rim of a gunky old tire! So we switched to fish and sweet potato. That was great for a while, but now we are having the same problem. I was going to try him on the Bison (the new one) but noone around here has it so I bought the Venison. Paid $58 for that 28 pound bag of it, too! How would I know if he had or developed crystals in his urine?
