so I went out today and seen Harley again.
well what a change in bulldog. I just can not get over this is the same dog that was afraid of his shadow a few weeks ago.
these owners are having a blast with him. he gets out for a walks, socialized at the petshop and car rides. they have a huge yard that is fenced in..next they intend to get a jolly ball for him to try too.
they are still playing with the laser with him and he loves it. deaf dogs love lights and things that move..he might just like the jolly ball I suggested that to them.
their childen have been working on teaching Harley to shake a paw. now I know that is easy to do but with a deaf dog..it is more the motions. these people were not using an signs with this dog..just verbal commands so he did not do anyting. I think they just got really frustrated to be honest. showed them how to teach him to shake a paw and the first thing the kids show me was HE can shake a paw. wow eh?
I got him to lay down today with hand signs. I also got him to come running when the come sign. he did that fairly easy. they bought him some great treats. REAL CHICKEN breasts for training..yea that works for a bulldog..lol.
this is a case of not knowing, first time ownership of a dog that happened to be deaf. and now look at the progress in a few weeks. he is doing awesome. the family is happy
PLEASE make a point of signing to your dog when you teach them. YOU NEVER know if something might happen and your bulldog happens to go deaf or you encounter a deaf dog that might be able to help
I am estatic...and happy and love happy endings
I go back again one of these first days..but this time for just coffee. we are becoming good friends because of this bulldog. a neighbour that I had no met before.
deaf dog consultant....lol
that is exactly what I am now..lol.
missed my calling in life ..
been great soo far
3 dogs have really been helped
and Gus is the reason..truthfully. if not for Gus I would not likely got into this role
with the deaf dogs. Gus is the bestest and sweetest. I would have no issues in adopting another deaf dog ever.
the vet is very happy with Harleys outcome. they took him for a visit...for no reason but to say hi.
great progress for this bully.
That is SO WONDERFUL, Pat...
Thanks for sharing the stories about Harley and, of course, your great Gus! I'm so happy for you too, to have a friendly new neighbor...sounds like good news all around. I'll bet your vet was happy too, that she encouraged you into your new role as deaf-dog-consultant.
great job Pat...so very glad you have
been there to help them....now take some pics of him....lol
hugs

kudos to the teacher
love the story.
That's great to read...
Happy Bulldog & Happy Owners & You are a great teacher!
Pretty Please...
thanks Matt..
been quite the experience to say the least..
glad Harley is doing much better.
everyone would do good with a day not communicating with their dogs. deafness is a real wake up call. all dogs need to know some of the signs... even my hearing dogs caught on to the signs. with 3 full days of not talking to them and training them for the day..they all caught on to the signs
thanks Bernata...very emotional day today...
nice to see him make progress with his family.
I give credit to Gus. if not for Gus would never have been helping this poor bully.
I missed my calling..lol.
this is the third deaf dog that I am happy with the results but Harley really tugs as my heart.
Bulldogs are people dogs...big time. I have yet to see or hear of a bulldog that is not in your face and so on. they even said today that Harley is hanging out with everyone much more too. he is picking up on the positive vibes at the house.
being deaf is not a catch all. I guess when they heard he was deaf..they figured that explained it all. but that is only the tip of the iceburg. now they know how to interact with him, communicate some, and so on and show Harley they love him....he will only prosper more and more.
I am a firm believe that is a dog is only as good as the owner... and the ones that train them.
he is now sleeping with their younger son too.
I got them to get him on a better quality dogfood too. he was not fed great dog food either.
told them to get s share in the poultry producers...hahahaha..they will need lots of chicken to keep training him. I went through tons of treats with Gus in the beginning for training too. now he just does things for a pet but that takes a bit of time.
very emotional day
thanks for the compliments
glad to hear you got some info for Chester that is postive
hugs to you and chester too. and LILY as well
Nice work, Pat
