Good News, , landlord has approved us for another dog!! Potential brother for Dozer!!

And i think i have found one, my husband and i have been going to our local shelter for the last couple weeks to try and find Dozer a brother or sister. My husband wanted another bullie but my heart belongs to the rotties. So we compromised and agreed to get a non-bullie dog but not a rottie as our yard is not quite big enough for one. Well yesterday i went to the shelter and fell in love with a little boy cocker spaniel. I never thought i'd be a spaniel fan but when that little boy wiggled all over (even his butt and back legs, lol) and stood up and leaned his WHOLE body into the cage wall so i would pet him that was it. He was just the sweetest thing ever. He's 2 yrs old ,neutered, house trained, and doesn't really bark at all. I can't pick him up til next week so i won't have any pics or anything til then. He was a stray found wandering the streets with no tags or anything, so sad... Everyone send good thoughts our way that it works out and Dozer likes him. Also anyone with any spaniel expierence, let me know any tips or info on spaniel specific things..

PS: i called the land lord back after they said no more pets and told him if we couldn't get another dog we would probably consider moving after our lease was up because we wanted another dog sooo bad.. When the home owner heard that he told the property management to let us have the dog because we always pay rent on time and take good care of his home. He didnt want to lose us as renters, pets or not.. I'm so excited..

PS: I also think it's funny that he tolerates cat's completely.

My 9 yr old siamese mix puts dozer in his place daily and she weighs 9 lbs.. It's amazing how dogs seem to know which dogs will tolerate them and which ones they can dominate. Anyways we're hoping for the best and we'll see how it goes. Wish us luck!!

Thanks for all the input guys.. i appreciate it.

As for Dozer's behavior he has been grumpy with about 12 different breeds of dogs so far all common breeds. We're going to try an introduction and see how that goes. I knew about the ears and grooming i am prepared for that. But we're going to give it a shot, if for some reason Dozer doesn't get along with him at all then we will return him most likely. But keep good thoughts for us and i will post updates ASAP!!

I could never bring another male..

in our home...I am "fostering" a 6 lb female yorkie/pom right now, but if it was a male,Dupree would not do well with him at all...He even had a issue when we got marley(female) and that alone took a long time for him to get used too

maybe they do something like that where she wants to adopt

just putting my two cents in! haha

I hope it works out for them though.

The shelter I work at has the prospective owners bring their dog

and if the dogs don't get along then they can't adopt them.

I had the same thought

I am concerned also about Dozer not getting along with the new adoped dog.

Just went back and read your earlier message

One of the dogs you said he didn't like was a cocker.

I totally commend you for wanting to rescue the little guy, but you don't want to bring him into a situation where Dozer might attack him. I might be a bit worried a fight would break out first time you take out a toy. Anyway, just my two cents. happy.gif

congrats! I had a cocker before

They def.need grooming every 3 or so months, depends where you live.We are right in Fl so..and their ears get yeasty because they kinda flop down and do not get much air in them..also, stay on top of his ears because it was a God awful smell, and it would smell up the whole house, and he was our only dog (At the time)
my cocker liked to "run off" alot..even neutered.. but he was a great dog, we were very sad when we lost him at age of 9, I got him from a family member @ 2.He just died...
He wasn't heat tolerate at all, esp.if they have all that hair.
have fun with him:)

Hope it works out

Do you think Dozer will take to a little brother? You were saying earlier that he doesn't like other dogs at the park - makes me wonder if he'll like a "rival" in his house. But I'm certainly no expert!
