The Art of Racing in the Rain. And OMG, I've been bawling my eyes out!!! AND even though I'm bawling, OMG it was such a terrific book! Thanks for recommending it.

for one thing, you know from the very first paragraph that Enzo, the dog who is also the narrator of the book, is very old and near the end. He then tells his life story from the time when his owner, Denny, got him as a puppy. So, when Enzo finally does cross over in the second to last chapter, you have long known it is coming and it doesn't hit you quite as hard. But then there is one more chapter that is truly magical. One of Enzo's core beliefs all his life, which he gathered from watching the Discovery Channel (he loved to watch TV and has some hilarious views on some of the shows he watches), is that when a dog crosses over, he comes back in a special way. I'm not going to give away that part, but trust me, you will have a HUGE smile on your face when you read the last chapter that more than makes up for the tears you shed when you read the second to last chapter.
And, I promise you will never forget Enzo. He is quite a character.

I loved the very first sentence . . . "Gestures all that I have."
I also hope it's true they get to come back. Tho I'm not so sure it would be great for them to come back as a __________. That might be a step down from being a dog.

He did tell me it was a little hard at the beginning because he had just lost Gus and it was not easy listening to it (I bought him the book on tape) but told me when he finished it he really enjoyed it.
I'm just gonna believe that dogs think just like Enzo... that they like to watch tv and listen to our conversations and know whats going on all the time... they just can't comment on it. Well, I already knew Chloe was like this, our golden retreiver not so much LOL
Gary, bought it this morning at Costco. I spent the rest of the day in front of the fire reading it! It was really good.... and I didn't really cry LOL. just "watery" eyes.

She read it and knew I would like it. She gave me a copy and told me to pass it on to someone else when I was done as she went out and bought another one for her and one for her sister.
I read the book in a day and LOVED IT. It has since be passed around my office and now my sister's book club is reading it.

This book is awesome. I first heard about it here. I have passed it on to so many people, even a friend who hates to read fiction. She loved it. One of the best books I have ever read!!

I keep asking that of everyone who reads the book, but it is soooo true IMO. It will be interesting to see if Hollywood can figure out a way to make a movie of this novel.
"One more lap, Denny, one more lap." . . .
I bet you remember that line for a long time to come.

Magical is just the right word...
Just a wonderful, magical twist to the make the ending perfect.
I've handed off the book to my husband & I'm anxious to see what he thinks of it.
