i have not tried it on him yet. i was worried he would be afraid of the noise or would gag on the water. i use qtips, tweezers, makeup brushes, a toothbrush...i'm just lucky he lets me do it.
since she was put out for gum surgery to close a gap above a tooth and her gum line and crevices were all cleaned out, she has not had stinky breath or any problems with impacted hair.
I think the waterpic would work well, but it does pulse and make a noise. I would put her in the tub to use it or do it outside. Cheapest price I found for the waterpic with all the extra parts was $48 on Amazon. No shipping or tax.
You can also try using an eyeliner brush or small art brush to sweep the hairs out.
