sleep. it's so nasty.. and we just had them done b.c. we thought that was why that stinky smell was coming out, but now every morning we wake up there is a small "yellowish" stain on her blanket and that god awful smell.. she is pooping fine and we just had vet " express" them.. is this odd???
Hope everyone has a great day
Haaving the same issues with Spike
His were infectd had blood in them. They were expressed again and the same thing. put on antibiotic and still a problem, ust not as bad. Talked about sedating him and flushing them out, talked about removal of them. I switch him back to a grain free diet, cut down on his frozen green beans, added fresh pupkin to his food for a few days and it seems better. I never had this problem until I had put him on Nutro food, his coat and tear stains got better but it rear end didn't. He was totally fine on California Natural. So if this grain free doesn't work. It's back to California Natural for him.
can they remove the anal glands...??
if her glands were just expressed..you would not think it is the anal glands but not mistaking the smell of them for sure either.
not sure if they can be removed. I remember a dog years ago and the vet I am sure said if they continued to give her a problem..they could be removed.
I am not sure help sorry
hope Bella is better
maybe you need to make another vet appointment and talk to the vet about this as well.
Call the Vet, she could have a small infection going on .
Oh they also said they have a new way of removing the glands
instead of the old way of making an incision and removing the whole gland and maybe hitting a nerve, causing incontinence, they now make the incision farther away and scoop the gland out, and then my vet said the way she does it in putting something in the gland that makes it hard and easier to get out. I am lost as usual.
Had Spike at the vet's this afternoon for a recheck
his glands weren't full but there was still blood in them. They are hard, where they should be more like grapes, smooth and thin. His as I said are hard like prunes. I am now going to buy a bag of California Natural for him to try for the next month and see if that works again. Poor guy he is tired of having his butt played with.
try adding some fiber....
metimucil is good for fiber to bulk up the stool....when they poop they press against the glands to express them...maybe the stools are just not hard enough to empty them out...
anal gland removal is quite serious
unless they are having chronic painful infections and developing cysts I would not recommend removal, I'm not a vet though. sometimes residue will build up in the glands though, have the vet take a closer look if you are concerned.
