I used to feed my Cocker milkbone biscuits and she loved them and never had any adverse effects. But I thought I read somewhere that they are considered the healtiest treats in the worlds. So I'm wondering if anyone on this board gives them as an occasional treat or has recommendations for something better...
thanks!

Thanks for the responses, everyone!
Your input and alternative treat suggestions are much appreciated!!
I'll check those out--thanks!
Uh oh...I gave the Tuffster two today and it's only a Thursday!!
Pat, would you read the label??
and see what's in the dehydrated treats you have? I have been having a hard time finding them with no chemicals, and they make Audrey's face stink in a very short time.
Thanks!
Cathy

no
Audrey gets very itchy from wheat.
We got a food dehydrator and make dehydrated banana chips. Audrey LOVES them, and they don't make her itch or make her face stink. We'll eventually make other things, but we have an abundance of bananas so it's banans for now.
The dehydrator was really cheap at wal Mart, too, like $30! score! My husband got a bagfull of bananas for $2, we got TONS of chips out of them.
You should see the looks on the faces of the other dog owners in training class when we munch out of Audrey's treat bag.
Priceless!

No...
Reason is because I'm always trying to eliminate things the dogs are allergic to. Here is the list of ingredients. Healthiest treats in the world? Not even close. However, not the worst either..
Ingredients
Wheat Flour, Wheat Bran, Beef Meal and Beef Bone Meal, Wheat Germ, Milk, Beef Fat Preserved With Tocopherols, Salt, Minerals (Dicalcium Phosphate, Calcium Carbonate, Zinc Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Ethylenediamine Dihydriodide {Source of Iodine}), Chicken Meal, Malted Barley Flour, Brewers Dried Yeast, Sodium Metabisulfite (Dough Conditioner), Vitamins (Choline Chloride, Dl-alpha Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Vitamin A Acetate, Calcium Pantothenate, Riboflavin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, D-activateD Animal Sterol {Source of Vitamin D3}), Poultry Digest, Dried Cheese, Natural and Artificial Flavor, Malic Acid, Garlic Powder
What IS concerning is that there is a lot of discussion out there saying people have found bugs in the box or worms in the bones! Several links have low ratings and discussions about worms. I googled "Milk bone ingredients."
I don't rescue animals because I want to feel better about myself, or morally superior to anyone. The best part of my life with animals is the humility they teach and the humanity the foster.

Yep, my girls love them, even my cat chases after them
but only the Gravy bones. They usually won't eat the other kind.

Dolly loves them...
We don't have them here all the time but when I buy her a box, Dolly thoroughly enjoys them!
Pretty Please...
Evo makes grain free treats that our guys love...
they come in beef and other flavors.

No.
But I'm a snob.
My childhood dogs all got Milk Bones and lived happy, healthy lives to ripe old ages. So, obviously I'm crazy.

I use them too....
Since I show Mattingly and I was trying to add a few pounds on him, I used the ones for LARGE breed and we use the Iams for Puppy too.

Old Mother Hubbard
or I also like the Wet Noses Treats.http://www.wet-noses.com/
My husband thinks they need dessert treats after breakfast and dinner. So they get 2 or 3 treats a day.
We like the Wellness Wellbars (Grain Free)...
as an alternative to milk bones.
I don't buy them, but Bella's camp has a big bowl so I always gi
when checking in and out
Hope everyone has a great day
I would not give anything containing wheat or artificial
colors...it has both. Of course, Hooch is allergic to half the world...but for a nonallergic dog i bet the Wellness treats are good. Hooch eats Ziwi Peak venison treats and Stella & Chewy Buffalo.
Zapper gets 1 every morning and 2 on weekends :)
Yep, on Fri. Sat. and Sun. he gets 2 as an extra treat LOL
dave
I get them
My friend McGruff died and left me his big box--I love em
Stella loves them but...
they don't love her. She always gets an upset stomach if I let someone give her one (only people I know, of course).
Thanks, Miriam!
It's funny I gave Tuffy the small breed milkbone and I even had to break that one up. He has trouble chewing biscuits but loved it.
Milk bones
Mine love them--get a couple at bedtime. Also feed Iam's biscuits--like them, too.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I have the dehydrated liver treats and he loves them! He also loves the marrow bones but I'm worried about giving him them too often because he has a sensitive tummy. I'll check the other treats that you suggested out too!
I bought these alergy free ones at the vet the other day...
they are great and the bulldogs both love them. they are made by Hills.
I love the wellness buscuits as well...
but the bulldogs are not as fussy about them.
tried milkbones here and got no reaction
but they do love the marrow bones..that is about the only buscuit or TREAT for that matter of any kind that Gus loves. I use marrow bones for him. Bella loves them too
I use alot of dehydrated treats on the market.. all kinds of them. liver, beef, chicken and duck. all my dogs love them..since they are just all 100% meat..that is dehyrdrated..
if you see the treats like that try some..you will be surprised at how long they last and I bet Tuffy would love them as well.
the liver you can break up very small to give to him too.
Not typically
but my neighbor gave me a box so I've been giving them here and there. Not what I would normally buy for him though.
