Do NOT ignore bumps - please READ

I usually don't post my personal business but I feel everyone should know this. Bailey has a mast cell tumor.

He has been battling an ear infection for months. I was diligent about re-checks until I got the ok that it was cleared. Last week I found a small bump on his chest below the center of his ribs. It really didn't feel like anything and I'm not sure I would have taken him to the vet just for the bump. He had his re-check yesterday for the ear so I asked the vet about the bump. It didn't appear to be attached to anything except the skin and she wasn't real worried but said we don't igore these thing. She did a biopsy and came back with the news which surprised her.

Bailey will have the tumor removed next Thursday and I'm trying not to worry until I have something to worry about. The surgery is short and simple but I will have to wait for the biopsy to come back from the lab for the real results. The tumor can be rated from 1-4 so pray for a 1.

Please, please, please don't ignore bumps on your dogs. If they are a bug bite they will go away. If they persist please have them checked by a vet. Bailey's re-check and biopsy yesterday was a bargain at only $66.00 which was money well spent.

Ollie had a mast cell tumor a few months ago...

we thought it was a wart, kept putting cortisone cream on it and it went down, but didn't disappear. He developed a weeping cyst on his belly, so the vet took it off and said he would take off the wart at the same time. Well, the wart was MCT. Ollie had to go back for a second surgery to make sure the margins were clean, but his was a slow growing one, not very aggressive. I'm sure your guy will be good to go after it's removed. Sending prayers.

agree. Hystiocytomas (harmless) look like Mast cell (not so harm

biopsy needs to be done to tell for sure. Hopefully you caught it early and it will just be a matter of a simple removal.

wow..great to know this info..

I had a boston that had a lump on her back . I was not concerned and it turned out to be cancer of the spine. ignoring the lump is not a good thing at all. best to get them checked out asap.

If it is bigger I would take her in.

I JUST found the lump last week and it's in a spot that I always touch. It just came on so fast.

glad you caught it and that is good advice.

I hope its a one and Bailey will be just fine. It's funny you mention bumps because I took Onslow last Friday to the vet for hives on his back and now he's on an antihistamine but still not better, its been a week. I'm bringing him back there today (to his dismay) =( I don't think it's serious probably just needs steroids but I can't stand seeing him itchy and uncomfortable.
