Curly Update.......

Last night I really thought we were in even more trouble.Curlys legs were going out from underneath him in the front and his back ones seemed stiff and sore. This morning he was getting around better, even jumped on the couch.Second vet visit this AM.Another large dose of antibiotics but thankfull,no cutting, and no anesthesia.Dr. is convinced all his problems are probobly the results of a spider.Possibly a brown recluse. He also said necrosis could happen and "everything" could sluff off around the wound. If anyone has had a similar experience, please e-mail me to let me know how your story ended. In addition, the pollen is wreaking havoc on the poor guy too causing icky eyes, bumpy forehead, and yeasty ears.We have a slew of meds and keeping his wound cleaned with a 5% iodine solution. The other three dogs are wondering why The Big Guy is getting ALL the attention.I was worried enough last nite to stay up all nite with him in"case".We have these tenacious, tough, and sturdy little dogs who in reality are as fragile as newborn babies.Their pain is our pain, their ills, our ills.We thank you so much for keeping us in your thoughts. We are still watching for our "happy ending".Also under Curlys neck, alot of fluid has accumulated(gravity I guess)Dr,could not extract any of the fluid.Again anyone with any input please e-mail.
Thank You all so much!

Raven was bit by a brown recluse

It does sound the same. I didn't see it happen, and didn't know that was what it was, but the vet said so because they'd seen it before. He had two teeny pinpricks when they shaved the area for surgery later, you could see them, like a snakebite. It was on his upper forearm. I came home and discovered him with a post for a leg it was so swollen. And he was stiff in his joints. This was 10 years ago, so I can't recall what they did to stabalize him. But watched it close and it did worsen and become necrotic within a week and he ended up needing a D&C surgery to clean out all the dead/dying tissue. He started healing immediately after that. I guess that is what the venom does.

The fluid that is gravitating to Curly's neck is probably from the inflamation. Raven's entire lower leg was a post for the same reason. Cold therapy/ice packs can help increase circulation to move it out of there, but it shouldn't cause any harm.

I will keep Curly in my prayers!
