Hi! I have a general question about the texture of a Bulldog's coat. Tuffy's head and chest are soft like velvet but his back is kind of course. Is that the norm for a bulldog or is that a sign of dry skin? He doesn't itch and doesn't have any hot spots or anything and it looks nice and shiny but I'm wondering if maybe I should supplement. The Iceland Pure fish oil caused gastric distress so that's out...

Same here..
the fur on Zimmer's back & neck is much coarser than the white on his chest. I brush him a lot & it seems to sometimes soften it up. And Zimmer's color is very similar to Tuffy's.

I have 2 opposites here..
Gus is soft soft all over but he is very course on his back..
Bella is just soft all over..
not at all the time
Gus sheds lots too
Bella seldom does..
I think that the white bulldog shed more anyhow..but that is just my thoughts
i have the same issue with oscar
when i pet him, his lower back is more coarse. He has been shedding & he loves to rub his body on our small evergreen trees in our backyard I think its just the way he is. If only I could figure out how to put a picture of him on this
tuffy is sooo cute & awesome. give him a hug from us
yup tuffy.......

Re: Coat question
Sorry, I forgot to put my name on the message.
Re: Coat question
My bully Lily has brindle on her head and on her back, and her coat sounds like Tuffy's. Soft and velvety on her head, and then more coarse on her back. So even though she has brindle in two different places, it has a different feel. My first bully was the same way, soft on the head/face, coarse other places.
You are so kind to my Tuffy!
I appreciate all the feedback. And that is a great point that was brought up about the white part of the coat being softer. From the pictures I see on the board the all white bullies look so soft and velvety...like a down comforter!
I may look into Cod Oil at some point once I get Tuffy's digestion issues resolved but I guess for now I'll chill!!
Thanks again...
this may sound crazy.......
but I notice a different feel between the colored hair and white hair. I have a brindle bully who has white patches and the white is so much softer. I also have a full white bully (except for a patch on his head and butt) and the white is much softer. I think it might have to do with color.
fine
My boys have that soft hair on their heads. I think Tuffy is doing fine. Good looking coat. Enviable even lol!

Tuffy is so Handsome...
And has a gorgeous coat of hair! I'm no expert but I think what you're describing is pretty typical. Dolly has softer hair on her head & ears & neck & chest & then the hair on her back is coarser.
George still has puppy hair on his head...
and he's 2. Thee hair on his head never got coarse and is still soft and fluffy, yet the rest of him has become a bit more coarse. I always thought it was normal, but what do I know lol:)
agree with Gary
Love that pic, i give my cod liver oil, they both have soft coats
Don't know the answer, but I love that photo
