Can i get some help here?

Spike who has been having anal gland issues recently, to the point where they want to remove them, is looking at me so sad, he tries to get p and walk but sits down right away and I have haved wiped his bum and cleaned it with a warm cloth, but he just scoots right back down again and lks at me for help, what can I do, of course it's a holiday weekend and ........

Yes, I tried to d them, but they are so infected that he cries

they don't feel full to me this is an ongoing problem for him. The vet says that anal glands should be smooth like a grape and his are all shriveled up like a raisin. sad.gif

Sounds like the glands need to be "expressed"!

Put on a pair of latex gloves and start squeezing slowly all around the area. Keep some tissues handy, too. You may even want to put on a pair of safety glasses, just in case. Seriously!

yes unfortunately this is a chronic problem. I was trying not to

do surgery. I tired adding pumpkin to his food to bulk it up, different foods, etc. But unfortunately, I think we are headed for removal of the glands. I will be at the vets tomorrow.

Doesn't sound good, but......

are you planning on taking him to the vet tomorrow? He'll need some medical attention, if that's the case. Infection back there is not a good thing. The poor baby is probably miserable with this condition. How did he get so bad? Is this a chronic thing with him?

I wonder if witch hazel might help cool the area

I have never had to deal with anal gland problems, so I'm not sure what kind if pain they cause. If it's itchy and burning, witch hazel may help. If it is pain, maybe rimadyl or baby aspirin would help. I am, by no means, an expert, so you may want to wait and see what other people say.
