Last night my husband and I experimented with having 10-month old Maya sleeping in the bed with us. She actually didn't do too bad. I was expecting her to pace all around the bed like a nervous ninny. Instead she laid right down and went to sleep. However, sometime around midnight my husband said she got off the bed and went into her crate, which is in another room. Here's my question: Do any of your bulldogs sleep in bed with you? Is this generally a bad idea? Also, for those who crate, do you keep the crate in your bedroom or another room? We are considering moving her crate into our bedroom. Opinions?
Thanks,
Adminane

EXCELLENT IDEA -- provide your bulldog a step of some kind
my first bulldog died a little over a year ago as a result of complications that started when she jumped off my very high bed and tore her ACL. She was at the vet's waiting for surgery the next day. I think the stress just got to her.
For anyone interested, you can buy really nice pet stairs to put next to your bed from www.petclassics.com .
We share our bed also
With 2 warm snoring bullies. I put a chair beside my bed so that they can jump on it and then jump on hte bed. They use it to get down also. Jasmine snuggles just as close to my feet at night as she can get. Spidee on the other hand runs across my head at least 10 times a night. Would not have it any other way. Love them bullies!!!
Angus is now 6 months old & we started having him
sleep on the bed with us a few nights a week...He loves it..The problem I have is that I want him to be able to sllep in his crate with out having any problems..Sooo I feel that it is important to have him sllep more often in his crate...Angus has never been one of these Bulldogs that just walked into his crate to sleep..Soooo I can't say that he loves it....But He does love the Bed...We have to lift him up onto the bed & put him down on the floor...he won't even jump off the sofa..lol...

I swear I just said the same thing last night...
I looked at them in there cozy little crates with blankets over them and thought wouldn't I like one of those big enough for me so everyone around this house would leave me alone...LOL
Rebecca
so true! I punch Kip for snoring and wake up if I don't hear the
We have been slipping on the crating at night and it was fine until last night when we had our first growl attack from Roxy in a long time. Junior and Roxy do fine as long as Junior is there first. He doesn't mind sharing the bed. Roxy is the one with a problem- she growls at him if he jumps up on the bed and she is already there. Then he gets all nervous and starts shaking. I tell her to knock it off. Everyone wakes up. It's back to crates for everyone tonight. Sometimes I wish I had my own roomy crate. LOL
Sweet Pea sleeps in our bed
Sweet Pea has been sleeping in our bed since the second night we brought her home. She peed in our bed a few times during housebreaking but we have not had any problems since. She will sleep in bed for 12 hours if we let her. We wake her up in the morning and she grunts and groins like "Mom, I don't want to get up!? She either snuggles right in between my husband and I with her head on the pillow like a person or closer to the bottom near our feet if she is hot. No matter what, she has to be touching one of us. She does drool on the sheets from time to time and I am always washing our blankets but it is worth it!
Bella sleeps in my bed
She has been since she was just a baby and I have not spent a night w/o her in 2 1/2 years except for when she had puppies then she was right next to the bed in her perla bed..Oh and the 1 night she spent at the vet last month. When she first had the puppies she would bark to get on the bed. As soon as she was done with the mommy thing she insisted on getting on the bed. I have a Captains bed so i have to lift her on and off the bed as it is about 3.5 feet off the ground. Good thing Bella weighs 45 pounds, i can lift Bosco 63 pounds but he hates sleeping on the bed. Breve' would try to jump off im sure.

Yes, sounds like we are!
Let me know how you do...I don't want to disrupt Zimmer's routine!
My bulldogs let me sleep in their bed
I sometimes kid myself that it is my bed. My first bulldog slept in my bed for almost 8 years, until she suddenly and unexpectedly passed away. My two current bulldogs, Boo & Clovis, sleep in my bed. I crate trained all three, and kept their crates right next to my bed.
Clovis spends the entire night in the bed, but Boo will get up and down, sleeping part of the night in the bed, part on the floor next to the bed, and sometimes part of the night on the sofa in the family room.
I can't imagine sleeping without them, tho I have to on certain occasions. When my first bulldog passed away, I couldn't believe how much I missed her snoring.
feeding
Cathy,
It sounds like we are in a very similar situation. I don't keep Maya's water by her crate but I do feed her next to her crate. We keep the water in the kitchen. I am wondering how to do the food thing too. Like you, I really don't want the food in my room. I have thought of feeding her in the kitchen now that the cat is beginning to tolerate her a little more. Since they are both fed at the same time I am worried about the bickering that can go on with them being together while eating. Maya just loves the cat, the cat only tolerates Maya SOME of the time. I think we'll just go with trial and error and see what works best for everyone. Will let you know how it goes. Sorry to be so long-winded.

Thanks...
the thing is, when he was a puppy I always fed him outside of the crate, and he still eats there, and his water dish is next to it also...so do I move the crate and continue to feed/water him where it used to be? I don't want to really confuse him, but I don't want food/water in our bedroom....
How beautiful!
Both your babies are beautiful!!

Crate Moving
Cathy,
I think we are going to move Maya's crate this weekend into our bedroom. I never thought she'd had orientation problems... I will try to remember to let you know how it goes this weekend.

Abby sleeps with us!
She always has. She has peed on the bed once. I love sleeping with her. She is so snuggly. My husband and I laugh at her process. She climbs her steps to get into bed she crawls in between the two of us waits for us to pick up the covers, so that she can walk all the way down underneath the covers and come back up. She lays with her head on a pillow and half her body under the covers. Like a human does. it is so funny.
Love,
Amy & Abby
Re: Bully in the Bed - Question
zimmer has been sleeping with us for a few months. He is only in his crate when we leave the house, as I still don't trust him with the run of the house. I am thinking of moving his crate into the bedroom also, again only to use when we leave the house. Will he confused if I move his crate?
Here are our babies! pic
This is the baby who sleeps w/my daughter
Our entire family with little Milo (only 4 mos. behind Bentley who is now 8 mos. old)
Re: Getting them on the bed??
Maya is only 42lbs and has no problem jumping onto the bed. She can also jump off pretty easily but I don't like it as I have heard horror stories about broken legs and hips. I'll put on the floor myself if I see her on the bed unattended. I've heard several people say they have those little steps they use for their bullies to walk up and down.

Getting them on the bed??
Our bully Bentley (weighs 60 lbs.) sleeps with my daughter but we're having a harder time getting him off/on the bed. How the heck do you get them up and down if they sleep with you?
Mine use too...
My girls use to sleep with me then they started having issues with who was going to sleep where. I crate mine now and yes their crates are in my room.
My boyfriend can snore and it gets on my nerves I have to hit him to roll him over but if my bullies stop snoring my eyes pop open to see what is wrong....
Rebecca
That is what happened with us
Bugsy slept in her crate for the first 10-12 months of her life. Then, we started letting her stay in the bed until we turned off the TV, then we let her stay as long as she wanted. She first started getting down around 10pm, then 12, then 3, now, you can't drag her out of bed. So, no more sleeping in the crate for Bugsy. She is spoiled.....
