hi everyone:
i just got a bulldog (my 2nd one) he fit the breed standard very good up tp 9 weeks it looks like his front legs are a little too long he is 10 weeks old now is it only a growth spert or when his chest gets wide he'll grow into it? i rather have a bulldog with short legs than long ones.
No, two totally different looking breeds
The American bulldog looks the dog in the old Spanky and Our Gang TV series, if you remember that. The Old English bulldog looks just like a regular English bulldog in the face and body, only with much taller legs.
different
they are different...the olde english bullys have longer legs like the american, but the olde english have more squashed in faces.
re long legs
Oscar has longer legs than Oreo and at almost two he is just now beginning to broaden in the chest and fill out so he looks more like the bulldog he is than a boxer. If they are purebred bulldogs, they will fill out but it can take up to three years.
"Old English Bulldog?"
Is an "old english bulldog" the same as an american bulldog? cuz the american bulldog was developed to look like the original bull-baiting bulldog of old england.
Long legs
Mine also has long legs. She also has a bit longer body than most. I really wouldn't classify them as long but after seeing several other English Bulls, her legs and body are definately longer than most. My Vet. said "she looks exactly like she should at her age but is a bit longer legged and bodied than most" He said, longer legs and bodies usually mean less health problems. My Bully is definately ALL English. Like humans, no two are identical.
Long legs, could be a different breed
I bot two bulldog puppies this past fall. I was surprised to learn that an English Bulldog and an Old English Bulldog are two separate breeds, and that some unscrupulous breeders con people into buying the latter. The faces look the same on the ones I was shown by one breeder, but the Old English Bulldogs are much taller, sort of like a boxer. Hope this helps.
