3-19-10 Update: Bluto had a consultation last Saturday with Dr. Radosta. She is one of only 51 board-certified veterinary behaviorists (DACVB) in the United States. DACVB's are the only true specialists in veterinary behavior. We have a behavior plan to follow that consists of daily exercises and sessions.
NEW INTAKE: Dog on hold pending medical & behavioral evaluations.
Arrival Story: Big Daddy was given away to a complete stranger several months ago. When the individual met up with his surrendering owner, he said they pulled up, popped the trunk, and took Big Daddy out of the TRUNK! The new owner (needless to say) grabbed Big Daddy and never looked back. Unfortunately he was given away without vet records, although the owners claimed he was up to date on vaccinations. They also said he was about 2 1/2 years old. Big Daddy's new owner took him home with the intentions of giving him a great furever home. Unfortunately, the home he was renting was foreclosed on and he was forced to move out. He had nowhere to take Big Daddy. As fate would have it, we met this man at a rescue event just one week prior. So when things took a turn for the worse, he knew exactly where to turn for the safety and benefit of his bullie - Adopt-A-Bull Rescue! Big Daddy hasn't been on preventatives since his freedom from that trunk...well actually we don't know that he's ever been on preventatives or received any vaccinations at all. So Big Daddy has an appointment at the vet first thing tomorrow where he will be tested for heartworms, vaccinated for rabies, and given an overall check up. Big Daddy definitely needs his nails trimmed, his infected ears cleaned, and his tail pocket examined (it's very very tight and is likely infected as well but big daddy wont let us anywhere near the area to examine him closely, not to mention he still needs to be de-nutted!! Stay tuned as we learn more about this little stuffed bear!
UPDATE: The vet said he was disappointed.... how such a cute bullie could have such a bad attitude. Big Daddy has never had frequent nail clippings or his ears cleaned, or tail pocket flushed out/cleaned. He's hurting all over in these very sensitive areas and goes on the attack when anyone approaches his special spots. Right now, he's at the vet.... they couldn't get near him without the fear of getting bit. Becuase sedating Big D was not effective, although risky, they are putting him totally under to examine him properly, clean him up and treat him. While under, they will go ahead and neuter him if they can.
Update 2-10-10: Big Daddy is heartworm positive. He has significant behavioral issues and will not be able to undergo heartworm treatment until his behavioral issues are managed and stabilized. It is very apparent that previous owners let this little brindle bear do as he pleased, something Adopt-A-Bull Rescue stands strongly opposed to! (This dominant breed requires strict and consistent structure and routine from pups to adulthood!) Big Daddy is food aggressive to humans and other dogs. Although a good listener, Big Daddy does NOT like be told what to do. He will aggressively attack humans if you attempt to groom him; clean his ears, wipe his face, clean his wrinkles, wipe his butt, etc. At first we thought this behavior was due to him being in pain having ear infections and a raw behind due to explosive diarrhea, but nope - he is just plain nasty! Now we understand why Big D was such a mess when we got him = he never allowed anyone perform the routine care and daily maintenance bullies require. It is very unfortunate that the 2 previous owners never took the time to "fix" these issues. Now, we have a huge challenge ahead of us. Estimated available date: 4 -6 months.
Big Daddy's adoption will be limited to the S. Florida area, no exceptions. When available, he will be adopted ONLY to an approved applicant that has experience with the breed, has some sort of back ground in dog training/behavior modification, and is willing to sign a special addendum to our standard adoption contract where adopter commits to one on one personal training follow-up sessions in their home for whatever specific period of time Adopt-A-Bull Rescue's personal trainer sees fit when Big Daddy is able to be successfully discharged from our program.

I am seriously rooting for Bg Daddy!
I hope he is able to overcome his aggression issues. Audrey's issues aren't human related, but other dog related, and it's SO stressful. She needs a doggy psychiatrist!
I can't imagine trying to deal with a dog that's aggressive towards humans. You are an amazing woman to take on a dog like that!
Thank you

Aww Big Daddy
Going to the spa is NOT a bad thing, sweety. There are tons of metrosexual bully boyz out there who love getting their wrinkles and butts cleaned (we'll introduce you to Ozzy later - you can't get more manly than him!). So give it a try, I think you will really learn to like it.
Erica, you have so many beautiful babies available right now!! Wow.
Do you EVER adopt as far away as Canada? Just asking
