I decided to let the chickens in the yard and they congregate now under Raven's juniper tree where his little dirt patch was (nice and cool in summer). It is now the Group Dust Bath for Chickens. Betty could care less. She's one of the only dogs I know that can be around the birds and not want to chase or eat them.

Lol, but remember, he's almost 70 years old now
tho Calista Flockhart doesn't seem to mind. BTW, I love the barn raising scene in "Witness." He and Kelly McGillis were great in that movie.

i guess NOT...
hopefully she does fine
right off the start for you
If I had Harrison Ford touching me, I'd stand perfectly still fo
But, seriously, good experienced milkers will. But, Edie is young and hasn't been milked yet, so since it will be new to her, she's likely to get fidgety and "kick the bucket". Nothing worse that having an aching back, tired hands and having your reward dumped on the floor...

They are blue, and green, even pink. And yes, more animals too..
There's Cowboy Cat, Raven's little buddy.
And Raven's other buddy, Billy-Bob, the bobcat.
Wild About Cats' caging is here, the only other cat currently on our permits is Zulu the cheetah, but she's on exhibit loan to Animal Ark near Reno. Pat, you should go there! http://www.animalark.org
Here I am with her brother Shaka:
And, Chili the donkey is here.
I have a rescued blind friesian horse on loan to a dressage rider friend (you can read about him athttp://www.wildaboutcats.org/mojo.htm ). And an arabian that is leased out to a friend since I can't afford to feed him right now. And a rescued mustang that is at a trainer for his first rides under saddle, he'll be home in 3 weeks.

I commend you for your efforts with all these animals Dawn
there are chickens and cows and Betty
do you have any other critters at the house there??
that cow video is too cool..
can not believe how easy they seem to follow your lead..
cool video
thanks for sharing
Okay, now you got me wanting a mini cow, they are just too cute
btw, why are they put in the stanchion? When Harrison Ford milked the cow in the movie "Witness," the cow was just standing there free as a bird, (g).

Here's a video of the cows in the cow barn...
Hi Gary,
I answered your egg question under Pat's comment...
Here's Betty with Edie:
I just took this video of the cows. I am leading them to the cow barn for grooming training. Ms. Edie is going to have her calf in the next few weeks, so we are getting into a milking routine in the stanchion, just grooming right now. Picking up her feet, putting a bucket under her, massaging her udder. This little barn and it's interior is 70+ years old. There are actually bootprints in the concrete floor from the farmer that poured it.

Here I am next to the same tree, at 11 years old...
Ha, ha, my mom dressed me funny. It was 1973. Anyway, notice the little tree is only a few feet tall, it is the same tree that the hens are dust bathing under in the video.
Gary: Here are their beautiful eggs. Yes, they are naturally this color. I get almost 2 dozen a day. The egg sales to friends pay for my grocery bill each month.
I am truly blessed to have this tiny farm as my heritage. Even though I am in the poorhouse for it, it is so rewarding. Anyone is welcome to come visit Betty and I in CA!!
