yesterday Gus started to paw and bark at the door to go outside to do his business. pretty good considering he is deaf. did not teach him this..he learned this on his own. I think what happened is deaf dog bark ..and he learned that barking gets him something...ever since he was a puppy..lol
Deaf dog bark really really loud. they can hear themselves...
he has been barking at the door a few days now..so guess it is offical..he is barking to go out to do his business. he barks to come back in the house too. I have a fenced yard for him.
ONCE he started to paw at the door, knew he was not barking at nothing..lol and had to go out. so smart..I am impressed.
that is a huge milestone.
the rest of the dogs just kinda get that look and circle around the door or pace. none of my other dogs barks to go out.
my girlfirends dog rings a bell to go outside. my sisters standard poodle..will grab you by the wrist and lead you to the door to let him out.
way to go Gus
will your dog bark to go outside.
Doing well!
Actually he has been doing very well. He is eating the California Natural Chicken and has not been throwing up (knock on wood!). His eyes have been kinda goopy since he has been on CN, but I guess that is better than throwing up phlegm, losing chunks of fur and infected ears. He really seemed the healthiest all around when he was on the Prescription Z/D food, but posters on this site advised me to get him off of that since it did not have as much protein.
He has also been sleeping quietly all night (big knock on wood!). All is well in Texas! Thanks for asking.
Smart boy!!
sounds like you are doing some amazing work with him

Boo is a silent lurker who uses ESP/mental telepathy
when she wants to go out, she will go stand and lurk by the back door until I turn and see her there. She must send me brain waves becuz somehow I always turn and see that she is there, even tho she doesn't make a sound.

Bella knows how to hum too..lol
I actually call that the bulldog cry but she does it really well..
not to go out though..
just if she wants something else..
Gus can do it really good
hard to believe that deaf dogs make a noise but maybe barking just comes natural for all dogs..no matter what.
Gus is for sure self taught on this one.
I am soo happy and impressed with him for sure..
I never thought a deaf dog would bark..but........
Gus sure put that thought out the window..lol
we do lots of laughing here..about it
too funny..
poor Sugar..
Gus does that too..he does bark to go out
and HE barks like a fool to come back in too..
ALL MY DOGS will bark to come back in..
so they should all bark to go out..lol makes sense to me..
all my other 4 dogs are PACERS....at the door
they just walk back and forth at the door to go out
this is pretty cool about Gus though
happy one of the dogs got it..lol
yes loud loud loud its too funny
they are both self taught for going out...matter of fact I was just talking with my daughter and Sugar was barking her head off the door wasy
open this time but she didn't want to go back out in the snow, finally out the doggie door ran down the ramp pottied and then ran back up the ramp pee'd on the deck and back in the house, what a nut!!
hugs
way to go Gus and Sugar

Onslow will but only if
we ignore his humming beforehand. LOL He hums first, circles us, then barks if nothing else gets our attention. Good Job Gus! =)

LOL Gus too..he is very vocal and LOUD LOUD LOUD...
he can not hear himself and wow he is loud.
pretty happy with my Gus
and Sugar too
pretty impressive considering both of these dogs are deaf
and really there is no way to teach them..they taught themselves..without hearing..
pretty darn cool and neat ...
way to go Sugar and Gus
I was pretty impressed.....with Gus... how is Spanky??
at first ..I thought he was just barking at nothing at all outside..lol. but once he started to paw at the door too to go out and such..guess he is trying to tell me something.
he did it a few times yesterday with the pawing and the barking.
maybe the other dogs can learn from Gus..lol. it is a hit and miss with the rest of them...I have them on a schedule to go out..at least the pugs.. Bella sits by the door to go out at least.
considering he deaf..that is pretty darn good
how is Spanky??
you need to post some up to the date pics of him too

way to go Gus...sounds like Sugar if she has
to go out and the door is closed she will bark very loud to go out...Gracie and Griffin just stand by the door and hope that you notice them...lol
Sugar is very vocal....lol

Good going Gus!!!
Spanky also barks loudly to go out to potty, however it is the same bark he uses to tell us a bird flew by, or someone is walking down the street..... or (his personal favorite) "I want to go sit in the sun." He still doesn't have a definitive signal for potty so we are always on alert. We keep a chart of when he pees/poops and that way we try to figure out his message. We are getting better at it.
Glad to hear that Gus is doing well!
Barking to go out to do his business...way to go Gus..
YAY Gus!
That is AWESOME!
I have one dog that will consistantly ring the bell.
One that cries and whines incessantly til you let her out
And Audrey just thinks that since she is the QUEEN, we need to be on our toes and let her out when she goes to the door. She will stand there looking at it like, Hello people? I need you to open this!
