So after my vet visit I go on line today to order my Heartgard tablets that my bulldogs have been on all their lives
and come to find out this product has been discontinued!!!! My bulldogs are allergic to beef SO they can't tolerate any
product that has this flavoring no beef chewables of any type!!
I'm waiting for my vet to return my call and I know many on this board have similar problems
with sensitivies also so any thoughts could help please post.
I didn't know about Heartgard...
Hmmmm...wonder why it's discontinued?
Pretty Please...
Check into Revolution
It's what my vet recommends.
I use Iverhart Plus
They are chewables, but more like a flavored pill, than a chew. I just read the label and it doesn't say anything about beef.
All my dogs have done fine on these and they are cheaper than Heartgard.

i use interceptor (not sure if its beef though)
It's a tablet
I did read about this alternative
Thanks for posting it.
alternative suggestion
I don't use a commercial heartworm preventative product, but do use the liquid Ivermectin that is labeled as injectable for cattle and swine. It has the same basic ingredient as most heartworm meds, without the fancy flavorings, colorings, fillers to make it chewy, etc.
The way I use it is to draw out of the vial a dose for the weight of the dog, then either remove the needle and squirt it into the dog's mouth, or like my dogs prefer, I squirt it onto a pet vitamin tab and let it soak into it overnight then coat it with peanut butter and offer it as a treat.
For dosing I use a 3cc syringe and calculate it at 1/10 cc per 11 pounds of bodyweight. So a 55 pound dog would get .5cc or about 3/8" in the syringe.

Interceptor is what my vet recommends to replace the Heartguard pill. I cut and pasted below the "flavoring" which I'm still not at all happy about. I wish that drug and food companies would just stop changing and switching "stuff" around it's frustrating. So now I have to run the gauntlet of introducing a different product and hope that my dogs will tolerate it!
Interceptor is a prescription medication FDA approved for use in dogs and cats. Interceptor is available as artificial beef (derived from pork and soy protein) flavored chewable tablets.
And to Michele's ? my dogs are in the house constantly the only time we spend outside is briefly if its a nice day just to get some fresh air and sunshine.
Phew
thanks Michele. With all the recalls it's hard not to worry.

It's only the tablets, for those who are worried...here is info
Heartgard Tablets, a non-flavored, non-chewable product, has been discontinued by the manufacturer. This product was a great alternative for those dogs with beef allergy that needed heartworm prevention.
If your dog has a beef allergy, and especially if your pet has been taking these tablets, you should contact your veterinarian to discuss alternative heartworm prevention medication.
Heartgard Plus (heartworm and intestinal parasite prevention), and Heartgard Chews (heartworm prevention only) are readily available. Only the non-flavored, non-chewable tablet is discontinued.
Me neither
I hope there's nothing wrong with it I just bought a 6 month pack! Please post a follow up for us.
