Why do tail pockets get soiled since the rectum is UNDER them???

I feel kinda dumb for asking this--------LOL-----seriously though----when they poo, it does DOWNWARD-----the poo does
NOT come in contact with the pocket, so then why do the pockets get SO soiled??? Of course I understand the two
areas are very close to eachother, but it really doesn't make sense to me!!! Of course I understand why Sophie
& Dapnhe's vulvas get a little poo in them and need to be cleaned, too, because of anatomical position...

I know I asked our vet a lonnng time ago, but I forgot what he said---. And yes, I have TRIED to google it, but every result only
talks about how to take care of the pocket! I like to know the WHY of things, and sometimes, I wish I didn't....LOL!!! Andd,
google does NOT like my overly analytical questions sometimes!!!

the grime is not poo but a combination of sweat, skin cells, and environmental dirt.

YES!!! Definitely YES.....but unfortunately....
like I said, lately, Daphne must either have a sore area or ....? She YELPS when we get to a certain area of her pocket---just one certain area---
she used to let us clean it with abandon.....hers is pretty deep & NEEDS cleaning at least every other day----! When she FINAALLLLLY gets her 'ACL surgery, I hope the doc can get a GOOD LOOK while she's anesthetised, to be sure there's not an open area..... poor baby!!...

Meaty also has quite a deep pocket, and YES, he enjoys having it cleaned---he and Daphne lick their lips in happiness (well, she USED to!)
Sophie has no pocket ----(Thank you....God!!! LOL!!!) She does have a very tiiiight, screwy tail, so of course we clean lotsa "stuff" from under there, and she just licks her lips with happniness, too! :-) I WISH Meaty & Daphne were as easygoing as she is about lots of things :-) ..
