After losing our mutt we had for 14 years this March, my husband insisted the next dog had to be a bulldog. He's always wanted one. For Father's Day, I surprised him with the cutest wrinkly little girl he name Leia. Of course, I did a ton of research, felt I was knowledgable about their pros and cons, and found a "good" breeder that insisted I could ask her any questions along the way. Yeah, no response from the breeder after we bought her. So, I'm seeking advice.
First, about a week after we got her, something happened to her eye. After research and a trip to the vet, we found out it was cherry eye (again, no response from the breeder when I asked her about it). The antibiotic cream isn't working, so the vet said the next step is to remove the gland, which I have concerns based on the research I've done. I watched videos of how to "pop" this babies back into place, and it doesn't work. Does anyone have recommendations on next steps?
Second, we are REALLY struggling with house training. She DOES NOT want to go outside, and understandably so with it being so hot and of course fireworks going off every night. With my back issues, I cannot keep carrying her outside. I've tried luring her out with treats, and she just lays there and does not attempt to even move or get up. Of course she loves to pee on her bed and poop anywhere inside. It's about 50/50 on bathroom habits. Sometimes I can get her go outside and other times she just runs to the door. Tried putting her on her harness and leash, and she hates both (not leash trained at all). I need help! How do I motivate her to follow me outside and actually use the bathroom. Praise/treats has been used, and my patience is wearing thin. She is even more uncooperative when I get upset with her. Ugh...
Tired and running out of paper towels, please help!
Kris
Many thanks!
Kris
How old is she?
They can hold it for one hour at 4 months and add an hour for every month. Gat a crate and if you can't watch her make sure she's crated. Take her out frequently and 15 minutes after a meal. We had a cherry eye gland removed and never had dry eye problems. Get her on a good grain free food with 25 percent protein or less. And wait until 6 months for rabies vaccine so her mmune system is stronger.
Also
i always tell my guys go pee and when they do they get a yummy treat. That way they learn to pee on command.
potty training
we had a lot of trouble potty training ours my husband would pick him up and bring him out a lot but what worked for us if we only offered him water 3x a day. morning with meal, middle of day and at night with dinner. we let him out in the morning when we woke up, after morning meal, after water in middle of day and before and after dinner. if he went outside and got tired from running around we offered water then but it worked for us!
