Thoughts on getting another dog...

Hi,

I was hoping for some input from current bully owners. I currently own a male, 5 year old English Bulldog and am looking into adding a Pug into our family. I was leaning towards another boy, but I keep on reading how it's better (safer) to NOT have two males in the same house? Any truth to this?

My bulldog never had any negative experiences or interactions with other dogs.

Thanks in advance,

I had two boys.............

My first bulldog was a male and at the age of four I introduced a male puppy to him.  It took a while for him to accept the new puppy and I noticed as they got older that one was definately the alpha male and they would have tussles.  When the oldest passed away I got a girl and I have to say I like the male-female dynamic a little better.  They have their "moments", but it is just basically the female being sassy to the male and it isn't anything like the tussles the males had.  I have also read about the troubles you can have with two males.  Good luck...........hard to really say!

Are they both neutered or intact?

If they are both neutered you will have an easier time if you do get 2 males. I liked having my two boys, they never fussed with each other. One was clearly the alpha male, the other was subservient towards him. They were not real close though, but they did get along. I have a female now, she gets along with my male "other breed" dogs a whole lot better than with the other female dogs I have, and I love the dynamic between she and my boys, so I prefer that male/female pair over two boys. Saying that though, I loved my two boys....

I have three males and...

they get along beautifully.  We just added a 5 year old girl and she's the one that starts trouble!  Oliver is 11, we added Chester as a pup (he's 8 now) and Newman was 8 months when we got him.  They usually accept a puppy easier than an adult.  And yes, neutering is a must.
