Temperatures are rising here in SoCal. Our new place does not have space for a new AC in the windows. Here is what I am

planning to do in order to keep the Fats cool while inside.

It's a DIY air conditioner. The guy says a block of ice lasts about 5 hours. I was wondering if dry ice would work better. Does anyone know if dry ice would be safe for this type of project? Of course we would have to be careful about handling it. But as long as we keep this project away from Fatboy getting to it, it should be OK right? I know nothing about dry ice.

Personally, I wouldn't risk not having a reliable AC

Indoor temperatures can become fatal, very quickly, depending on outside temps/sun exposure/proper insulation etc.,

What style windows do you have? The stand up/rolling AC's work pretty good and easy to move from one room to another.

Good luck

I have to agree with Lynn on this...

I would not go without reliable AC in a hot climate with a bully..,

The window ac would cause an issue with our landlord. She's

kind of nutty. Plus we are still dealing with black widows outside. I don't want to risk them coming inside the house through an ac unit.

The stand up floor models do not require

a window. You just have to have a way to collect the condensation. Maybe you could put one in a bathroom, putting the hose into the tub?

Good luck

I have a portable AC unit, and the condensation collects in the

bottom. However it has a hose that needs to be put inside a window to collect the air (if that makes sense). Is this the kind of unit you're talking about?

landlord

Boy, I would have a few things to say to your landlord. Does the landlord know it is actually a life and death issue with your bully? I hope this person loves animals. Who can resist a bulldog? What are the landlord/tenant laws in your area? It may not be of help to you, but I have used the portable type a/c years ago and it was fantastic. Do the windows not open? There are screens available that you can put on the intake tube that won`t even let a tiny nat (sp?) inside.

I am so sorry you are going through this as I know the worry. I have a/c and when I was at work I always worried about power outages and I would come home to a dead dog. when temps were really high and I face west.

I hope you can find a resolution that works for you, your bully as well as your landlord.

Thank you for the advice. Our new landlord is

turning out to be a nasty lady. I recently had an issue with the front tenant coming over into our gated property spraying some kind of mystery stuff on our living room windows. I informed the landlord how this was an issue for a variety of reasons, but mainly because I didn't want to become responsible for any potential damage she is causing. The landlord contacted her but was told she was washing our windows because she sprayed water on it. The landlord believed her and was very curt with me about the situation. The front tenant was obviously lying and I ended up finding mystery aerosol cans in our yard (Fatboy actually found them).

This is another reason I don't want to use a portable air conditioner because the front tenant is crazy. She thinks it's OK to come through our gates, into our private yard, and "wash" our windows. She would probably spray whatever it was she sprayed directly into the AC vent.

I honestly think both the landlord and tenant don't like dogs. However she allowed us to move in, which I am grateful for. But I'm also worried about the safety for my Fats.

The unit my father had

ran inside the house, the only thing he had to do was to keep the hose that collects condensation from the humidity in a drain/pail.

Good luck
