Question about Bulldog colors

I have seen a bulldog breeder website that is advertising "AKC merle, blue, lilac and tri-colored and champion sired bulldogs". I am familiar with the colors that are considered "standard" for bullies, but have not heard of these colors before.  I was hoping someone could explain?

PS - we had our bullie, Roxy, for 12 years.  We lost her a year ago and I am now starting to look for a new baby:)

I know NOTHING about colors....LOL....BUT, I just

wanted to say I'm so very sorry about your Roxie!!!  Wow, 12 years!  As everybully agrees, we WISH they'd live as long as us...

BUT..... 12 is a WONDER-bully long

life for a bulldog!   Our oldest (Meaty) is now  a very healthy 7 1/2, which---to be honest----makes us kiiinda nervous....even

though he IS healthy!   Anyway, there are other peeps here who will DEFINITELY know the answer to your questions...and

have FUN finding your new baby !!!!!!!    (P.s....the colors you listed sound GORGEOUS!!!)

Bulldog Colors

Marci - the colors you listed are not standard colors for bulldogs.   Pending the outcome of the Bulldog Club of America vote to revise the standard, these colors will not be acceptable colors for bulldogs.  Many breeders who are breeding these dogs consider them to be rare colors which demand a higher price.  In the case of Merle, which is a marking not a color, the Merle gene has never been found in purebred bulldogs.  All I can say is proceed with caution if you are interested in one of these non-standard color bulldogs.

Agree 100%

These are not colors recognized by the BCA & many of these "fad color" bulldogs come with a myriad of health issues.  I suggest you do research & find a reputable breeder, call your local rescue or bulldog club for a referral. Here are colors are defined by the BCA:

Color of Coat
The color of coat should be uniform, pure of its kind and brilliant. The various colors found in the breed are to be preferred in the following order: (1) red brindle, (2) all other brindles, (3) solid white, (4) solid red, fawn or fallow, (5) piebald, (6) inferior qualities of all the foregoing. Note: A perfect piebald is preferable to a muddy brindle or defective solid color. Solid black is very undesirable, but not so objectionable if occurring to a moderate degree in piebald patches. The brindles to be perfect should have a fine, even and equal distribution of the composite colors. In brindles and solid colors a small white patch on the chest is not considered detrimental. In piebalds the color patches should be well defined, of pure color and symmetrically distributed.

I also agree

stay away from breeders that are so willing to breed outside the standard.

Good luck
