We're on our fourth precious foster since we started a year ago. LOVED 'em all--- of course-----but 2 gilrs absolutely
could NOT stay because Sophie and both of them had MAJOR Alpha issues. Then our precious 12-year-old
guy died suddenly after only being with us 9 days last summer,,,,,sooo heartbreaking....... We were ready for him to adopt us, too!
We weren't about to let him go to yet ANOTHER home; and even though himz was 12, and heartworm positive and blind, annnd
his ears were covered in bug bites, we were ready to love him and do whatever we could! The vet was also getting ready
to start heartworm treatment on him.....I still don't know a lot about it, but I do remember the vet saying his blood counts
of the heartworm weren't terrible, so we were hopeful!.....
.....;
.....
This sweet guy is eleven, deaf, and just soo sweet and gentle! He has adopted us, and we're thrilled!
First. hubbs said he looks like Mr. Magoo, so we started calling him that. Then the other day, hubbs
said "he looks like a very wise professor!"., so now he's either "Da Professor" or "Professor Magoo", or "GOO"......etc!
When he first came to us, he needed to gain weight, had a very dirty tail pocket, and OH MY LANTA !!!! His ears
had SOOO much gunk in them!!! But thankfully, he's doing well for being eleven! EXCEPT that he does limp, and
sometimes, it is very SAD to watch him walk !!! Vet started him on Rimadyl, I pray it helps his pain. I always
ASSUME they're in pain when they limp, but our wonder-bull vet doesn't think he's in a lot of pain! ( hope that's true!)...
.....
And just a note about his age/ difficulty walking/ etc.....we have NO experience with elderly doggies (except for that sweet
guy I mentioned above, that died suddenly (volvulous and/or hear attack???) / traumatically in front of us...) I pray
that he'll die peacefully in his sleep......As I wish ALLL of yours and our precious hoomans and pets did ........!!! ....But, if the time comes when it's up to us to intervene, I am seriously considering finding a vet that comes to our house! The vet we go to (and LOVE!!!) doesn't offer this,
so I'm torn because we'd prefer him to do it, yet---the thought of doing it in their office just seems like it would be more sad....I dunno?
My nephew recently had to put his kitty down, and was SO happy that he hired a vet to come to his home to do it....
....
He's the guy on the right.......he looks good for 11, doesn't he? :-) And after gaining a few pounds, too!

You guys are wonderful for taking the old guys...
Thank you for all you do:-) He is a lovely boy:-)
Amy and Sophia
Looks great
thanks for taking the seniors, they will always be my favorite.
I won't bring my dogs into the vets office, I don't want them stressed in their final moments. If the vet can't come to my house, he will come outside to our car. The dog isn't anxious and it makes it easier with the heavier dogs.
Good luck
Lynn King CPDT-KA
Thank you, Lynn.....that would NEVER have occurred to us! I
am SO thankful you posted that! I also don't like the thought of the office---ugh---too LOUD, etc !!!
And I asked, but our vet doesn't do the housecall thing. The CAR----with just us & a comfy blankie! -THAT is a great idea!! Although
of course, I pray they'll all just go in their sleep-----but......Anyhoo-----thank you! (( hugs OO

I must say. It's been 51 days since I had to put down the love of my life. My American Bulldog Bubba. Loulou has been so upset. They have live together since they were babies. She is having a hard time walking down the street we always walk but we both are still in pain so she getting extra Love. All I can say is when you know there ready give them that love of ending their pain. Once to get to that point and there No way back the vets are really nice. They will let you spend extra time with them. I wanted my Boy to live forever. He was my only link to my son that is No Longer with Us. this detroy me to find out he had Liver Cancer and I couldn't help him. I had taken him to a vet and had a well fitness check up. They did blood work and said he was heathy. Then four months Late. I'm putting him down. All test said liver cancer and when I saw the ultra sound and the cancer. Even I knew he was in pain. I knew what would happen if his stomuch turn on me. I had a hard time letting him go. The vet was in Tomball Texas. They were was sweet and understanding. They gave me time to spend with him as he was drug to go to sleep then another dose and he went so peacefully. I sang to him as he fall to sleep. I was on the floor with my baby which he was on a big blanket. They let me stay with him intill they closed. When that time comes it's hard and Heart breaking but you will know. Find a vet that will help you after they are gone. giving me that extra time meant the whole world to me. you never know what will happen to our babies. Loulou 8 years old now. That scare the hell out of me. I only have a few years left. But I know your a strong women it will help. But what helps most knowing you stop the pain.

One of the young girls in our rescue (she's only 24) and her Mom foster a LOT of bulldogs, especially the elderly/ hospice
doggies. In the past year, the daughter has had to take 3 fosters to the vet to put them to sleep===and TWO of those
3 were NOT elderly or hospice---they had other health issues and were fairly young. Of course it breaks my heart for
them, and the fact that her Mom WANTS to go with her to the vet at these sad times, she hasn't been able to because
of her demanding job (ironically, the Mom is a hospice nurse for "hoomans", so it's obviously difficult for her to get
away from her job many times! Anyway, I thought it was SO sweet that with the last foster baby that this young
gal had to take to the vet to be put to sleep, she actually read the sweet bulldog a BOOK about going to heaven,
alone, in the exam room, beforehand. I just loved that, and maybe I will do something like that, too----but then,
honestly, I don't know if I'd be able to read anything at that sad time.!!!
....
More ((( HUGS ))) to you----you are always SO sweeet, and I love your posts!!!
